This week we feature the brass bands of Costa Rica in the first of a two part series about the fascinating culture and long history of brass bands, called Cimarronas, and large puppet parades called Mascaradas. This week we speak to members of Unidos do Swing and talk about the Brazilian brass band scene, including HONK RiO, Festival HONK! SP, Fanfarra Clandestina, Damas de Ferro, Fanfarra Black Clube, Os Siderais, Calango Careta, Cosmobloco and Sagrada Profana.

This week we dedicate the show to those fighting for racial justice in response to the murder of George Floyd and ask radical brass bands to recommend organizations for the listeners to support and donate to.
