    #6 - Kate builds worlds in a man's world

    Kate's known since high school that she wanted to design theater sets. Building a career in that field meant navigating a world dominated by men and learning to embrace the ups and downs of a job that doesn't exactly boast "stability" as one of its selling points.

    You can find the show and host Ariel Hudes on Instagram @arielhudes - linking there to an awesome documentary PBS made about Kate!

    #4 – Yvanna goes to Vegas… and gets political

    Yvanna Cancela planned to join the Peace Corps after college, but decided at the last minute to move to Las Vegas instead. Years of working for a union there taught her how important it is to fight for the rights of citizens and workers. That turned out to be good training when, in 2017, she was appointed to the Nevada Senate. She was just 30, and Nevada's first ever Latina Senator. ~~~
    Yvanna says if you’re a women and you’ve ever had an inkling to run for office – now’s the time to do it! If you’re thinking about it, sheshouldrun.org is a great resource.

    #3 - Meghan pushes a stroller at grad school

    Meghan knew she was kick-starting grown-up life when she got married just after graduating from college, but was deeper into adulthood than she expected when she and her husband quickly added two kiddos to their life.

    ~~~~~
    Meghan knew one thing when she finished college: she wanted to spend the rest of her life with her boyfriend. But after getting married and moving to Brooklyn, their little duo grew quickly-- first with a daughter, then with a son. Somehow, a round-the-clock work schedule and scrappy budget cohabitated with grad school, volunteering, and now, in her 30s, world travels with teenage kids.
    #2 - Rachel gets over prestige
    Rachel thought she should choose a prestigious career, but she learned from teaching in a public high school in New Orleans to see priorities differently.
    When Rachel graduated from college, she thought she’d become a lawyer, because that was the kind of prestigious job a smart girl like her was supposed to get. But 10 years later, she’s still working in public education in New Orleans, and not looking back.
I Want to Join This Club
Do you need a heavy shot of courage at this time in your life? Have you had a lurking, teasing shadow in your mind that pops up, unbidden, seductively presenting you with a vision of a life better-lived?
Ariel Hudes is on to something! Many of us are in awe of the few people who have jumped from the ledge and landed feet first. It's the American Dream with a twist. The characters in this first collection of Hudes' interviews are women who have climbed the ladder of academic success, i.e., the best colleges, the highest grades, the most attractive personas, the most promising professional futures. Yet, each of them felt the tug of an inner voice saying "I am not happy and I want a more fulfilling existence".
This is the first installment of Club House by Ariel Hudes, and it is easy to see that she is intentionally challenging her own long-held criteria for success. Ms. Hudes is a good listener and a supportive audio host, encouraging her guests to be comfortable with their choices, rather than making those guests defend their decisions to change their life's work. I am jazzed after listening to these interviews, and it has inspired me to pursue a change that I previously thought was a pipe dream. Maybe now I will take a puff from that pipe.
Fantastic New Podcast!
It's fantastic to finally have a podcast that gives a diverse set of women a platform to tell their story. It's refreshing, it's fun, it's real.
Eavesdropping
Just binged on the 1st 3 episodes.
Listening to these remarkable women share their stories so openly I laughed aloud and welled with emotion. They are each amazing and inspiring! Yet each shows her humanness and vulnerability.
Ariel sets a conversational vibe. Her questions are genuinely curious. Her comments show her awe and admiration. Perhaps it’s this that encourages each woman to reflect
on her thoughts, feelings, memories and future so openly and honestly.
Listening to each story I feel like I’m eavesdropping on two cool friends chatting about the path of life. More please!!
