With the challenges of getting the mill to actually make parts fresh in my mind, a friend came to visit. He is an expert in this area, and his insight into the issues I am facing have been incredibly valuable. The mill is in place, but I haven’t been able to work on it due to an expensive, pressing issue. Illinois sales tax going back aways has come home to roost. With thousands of dollars on the line in penalties, there is a deep frustration with having to divert my attention to this task. With the mill finally bought and paid for and on its way, a new challenge arises. How do we get it in the room? The doors into the room are only 36” wide and the normal door height. The mill weighs over a thousand pounds. There is no way to put a forklift in the room, or even much of any type of hydraulic lifting equipment. We have looked at buying or renting some equipment but there is no rental equipment and the purchase would be extremely expensive for this one operation. So how do we get it in place and setup? As I look back on the last 14 months, there is a long term and consistent decline in our website conversion rate. A lot of things go into the conversion rate, but many of those I can’t do much about. I have limited control over the macro economic climate and the Meta AI is what decides who sees our social media ads. I can however work on improving our website to be the best it can be. I really appreciate Colin’s commitment to this podcast and his business. I first heard about his company and his podcast through mikhaila Peterson’s podcast. Naturally I was very interested because I am an aspiring business owner in the maker space as well. I started then listening to your podcast pretty regularly, and loving it!!! I love all of your business advice and all of your lessons learned, so that hopefully I don’t have to learn those lessons the hard way when I start my business. I also really love your episodes on attitude, perseverance, anxiety, taking on responsibility (go figure, I found you through mikhaila Peterson and I’m a huge fan of her dad). I really hope I can buy from your company soon once I have the money for a product I want, but I definitely want to support you guys and I think you have a really beautiful well crafted product. Y’all are doing awesome, keep it up!!!
A great brief podcast.
I'm a fan of Murdy Creative's products, and now I'm also a fan of Colin's podcast. Each podcast is short - usually 10 - 15 minutes, so there's not a lot of "drag" in Colin's presentation. It's also refreshing to hear a business owner talk honestly about the trials of starting a new company. If you are an entrepreneur, you would probably appreciate this podcast.
Excited perspective on start up business
I enjoy the daily challenges and perspectives given in each episode. The length is great for easily digestible segments. And the atmosphere is light and fun, it is an enjoyable listen I look forward to each day!
