    w/Spite Your Face

    w/Spite Your Face

In memory of Tony Mines (1978-2022).

Back in May, we had the honour of speaking to both Tony Mines and Tim Drage of Spite Your Face. Tony was suffering from terminal cancer at the time of recording, but despite this, was more than happy to participate in the podcast and share many stories of working together with Tim over the years. They were both great to talk with and they would go on to talk extensively about the process of making their most iconic films and give insight into their various inspirations and influences.

The other week, I made this episode available to members of the Bricks in Motion Patreon with the intent of releasing it to the public that following Wednesday. Just before I did so, we would hear the news of Tony's passing, that previous weekend. Given this news, we wanted to delay the release of the episode.  Tony Mines and Tim Drage of Spite Your Face are a massive inspiration to so many people in the Brickfilming community; from some of the online pioneers, even to newer brickfilmers who started way into the time of YouTube. It is no exaggeration to say that they kickstarted so many people’s brickfilming journeys and are some of the first brickfilms many of us would have ever seen - myself included. Tony Mines was a true legend of the Brickfilming Community and the LEGO Community more broadly, and his legacy will live on for generations to come.
