Meet Ben Hanten - The Ben of Ben's Brewing Co. and The Copper Room

We LOVE sitting down with musicians and learning more about who they are as people and how their experiences have influenced their songwriting and performances, But THIS time we did things a little different. We sat down with Ben Hanten of Ben's Brewing Co.  Ben is no stranger to live music. He is the man in charge of hiring the acts for the Copper Room and the mastermind behind his successful open mic series.  We've been friends and customers for quite a few years now and appreciate his desire to build community around his business. What does it take to build a successful business and how does that relate to music?
We'll talk more about that and also give a little insight into what this venue is looking for when booking entertainers.
We hope you enjoy this one and as always please share, rate, and review!!! It helps us out!!!

    Meet Project : Constellation

    Meet Project : Constellation

Project : Constellation is Santiago Silva and Christina Rosebrough. They're an acoustic-folk-rock-pop (and more) duo from Grand Forks North Dakota that's full of inspiration and personality. Their songs are influenced anywhere from old Irish Folk music to modern day punk. They've been racking up the miles the last couple of years playing venues far and wide and making new fans. They even had a tour this last summer in Georgia (and we don't mean the state, we mean the country)! We are so thankful we had the opportunity to sit down with them and chat. We hope you have as much fun listening to this episode as we did recording it. If their fun personalities don't have you convinced to check out one of their shows, we hope their track "Closed Doors" does! There were so many more things we wanted to cover, but we left plenty of opportunity for another episode in the future.

    Meet Eric Beringer

    Meet Eric Beringer

We had the chance to sit down with Eric Beringer a few weeks back and talk shop. Eric's been a part of the music scene here in Yankton SD for quite some time and if you live in the area, chances are you've seen him around. Currently, he's part of a duo called Kings of Oblivion with James Dean (have you listened to James' podcast yet?)  and he also has a solo project called Eric Beringer Acoustic. We visited about his earlier bands 5 Star Diner and PostPosition and talked quite a bit about sound...like a LOT! It was fascinating and we're so happy we had the opportunity to get to know him better. Added bonus...he brought his guitar and played a song that hadn't been recorded until now. We're a little nervous and hope he gives us a thumbs up on this one!!

We've included links to his projects below and hope you check them out.

So without further ado...dig in and enjoy!!!

Meet Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band

Meet Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band

Wow! This was the first podcast we've gone into a little "Star Struck"! You not only get a conversation with the Rev. Peyton, but Washboard "Breezy" Peyton and Maxwell Senteney also joined in on the fun. How do you go from the being the fan to being the interviewer? Have fun finding out the answer to that question with us. We talk some things music and LOTS about fishing.

Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band has built its reputation the long, slow, hard way. After 12 years of playing as many as 300 shows each year, Rev. Peyton, the world’s foremost country blues finger-style picker, along with the biggest little band in the country has pieced together one of the most dedicated followings out there.

With all the power of a freight train, the Big Damn Band is known for its live shows. Rev. Peyton delivers guitar pyrotechnics the old fashioned way — ten fingers, a 6 string and an amp cranked at full tilt. In the country blues style, he plays the bass with his thumb, while picking the lead with his fingers at the same time. When he lifts the guitar behind his head to play there’s nothing but skill and 16 gauge nickel strings to make the sounds coming out of the speakers.

Beside him on stage are just two other people. His wife, “Washboard” Breezy Peyton playing with all the nuance and percussive power of a New Orleans drum line, and keeping the train moving is Max Senteney on a lean drum kit including a 5 gallon maple syrup bucket. Together they play Peyton’s wildman country blues that’s as much ZZ Top as it is Bukka White.

The 6th Meridian Hops Farm show blew us away and we can't wait to see them again. If you haven't checked out a show you need to do it!!! Seriously!!!!

We've included the link to their website. You can find everything Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band related there...including their own podcast!

Special thanks to these guys for taking the time out of their busy schedule to sit down with us

Meet Heath Johnson host of The Heath Bar Podcast and a pretty funny dude

Meet Heath Johnson host of The Heath Bar Podcast and a pretty funny dude

A few weeks back when we were in Rapid City playing a couple of gigs, we had the opportunity to sit down with Heath Johnson of the Heath Bar Podcast. We did back to back recordings (interviewing the interviewer) and had a blast! You'll really want to listen to them both...we promise!
Heath Johnson is an Americana Country songwriter from Spearfish, SD as well as the host of his own podcast called The Heath Bar. He has the gift for conversation and is a really funny guy. We couldn't help but to warm up to him instantly, and It didn't take us long to realize how dedicated he is to helping others.  He organizes the South Dakota Songwriters group and activities around the Black Hills area and puts together songwriters rounds for other local artists.  Along with his solo shows, he is also the lead in an Americana Honky Tonk band named The Ruthless West and a proud new dad! We hope you enjoy listening to this episode and his as much as we enjoyed capturing them.
As a side note, sitting down with Heath was extra special for a few reasons. He's awesome (of course), his podcast is part of the inspiration for ours, and this was our first pod on the go...meaning we're portable baby! Watch out podcasting world!!!!
As always, share, rate and review our podcast and help us keep this thing going. Suggestions are always welcome, and take care out there friends!!

Meet Yuya Mix - Ben's Brewing Co.'s multi-talented bartender and one man band

It's not every day that you have the opportunity to sit down with an artist after they've played their very first full gig, and this episode highlights what that was like for Yuya (Will) Mix. If you've listened to some of our podcasts in the past we're sure you've heard us mention Ben's Brewing Co. and the Copper Room numerous times. It's here that we met Yuya. Join us for a journey into Will's world of artistic expression and learn more about what it takes to hit the stage.  Keep him on your radar...we think he's got what it takes!!
