All you need is love
The indie movie vibe of Dater has moments of hilarity, despair, and everything in between as you follow @TheNickTester’s shaky ascent through the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
When you’ve been in a relationship for as long as I have, it’s easy to take love for granted. Maslow’s hierarchy puts Love only after sustenance and safety - It comes even before esteem needs, cognitive needs, aesthetic needs, and finally, self actualization. Dater was a trip down memory lane, reminding just what lengths we’ll go when we’re deprived of one of our most basic human needs: Love.

Dater is a fascinating deep dive into the contemporary world of dating, filled to the brim with all the nuance, neuroticism, and nagging self-doubt that comes with being overexposed to information in the 21st century. Nick casts a hypnotic spell as he unspools each tale that makes you want to immediately queue up the next episode.
It's got a great structure (with a well timed plot development that I won't spoil) that reveals how Nick views the world, and, more interestingly, himself, peppered with insights from third party witnesses. It's in getting to hear these multiple viewpoints on individual incidents that the truth spills out and both sides of the dating equation are exposed.
If I had a complaint, it's that one of the most fascinating tangents (about a doubletake-inducing trip to an ice cream shop for an interview project) is casually mentioned without further explanation. Hopefully it's a tease for Nick's next project...

This podcast is a real view into what the dating world is actually like - awkward, stressful, hopeful, and some funny moments along the way. @thenicktester and his friends bring you on an extremely entertaining journey into the world to Tinder and the realities people face while trying to find that special someone.
