1 | Daniel Holtzclaw: The Jannie Ligons Traffic Stop

An investigation that began after Jannie Ligons, a 57-year-old grandmother, is pulled over at 2am and allegedly sexually assaulted. Very quickly officer Holtzclaw is identified as their prime suspect. Sex Crimes Detectives Kim Davis and Rocky Gregory take over there case. Det. Davis decides Ligons is telling the truth before she ever even interviews Holtzclaw or reviews any evidence. Det. Davis further bias her investigation by instructing other investigators that she doesn't want to use what is normally considered a primary investigative tool - the photo line up. A surveillance video of the traffic stop is located and officer Holtzclaw is confronted and taken to headquarters for questioning.

2 | Daniel Holtzclaw: The Interrogation

2 | Daniel Holtzclaw: The Interrogation

June 18, 2014: This episode covers the formal interrogation of then Oklahoma City patrol officer Daniel Holtzclaw by OCPD sex crimes detectives Kim Davis and Rocky Gregory. The two hour interrogation is an awkward combination of "good cop, bad cop", discussions over which hand one masturbates with and whether or not Holtzclaw tried to have sex with his then girlfriend after he got home. All of this while the focus was supposed to be on whether or not Daniel Holtzclaw sexually assaulted a 57-year-old African American woman he had pulled over, off-the-clock, for allegedly swerving.
This is the complete interrogation with only minor edits for the redaction of personal information.
A condensed version of this interrogation, with host Brian Bates' commentary, will be contained in the next episode.

My theory

I’ve listened to several of these podcasts, and I’m almost under the impression that it was a joint effort. The short black cop that they talk about that raped one of the females, I’m thinking was involved in the drug trade in the neighborhood and Holtzclaw is getting too close to uncovering where the drugs were flowing from, and maybe who benefited from it and I believe he was set up. If he would’ve uncovered the truth, maybe other officers would’ve went down. I think there’s deep rooted corruption in the police force. He didn’t fit in because he was a good cop. I think that whole police force needs to be investigated.

Dear Narrator…

As you spoke about the ‘no snitching’ code amongst the area’s (mostly black) residents, you stated: “In my experience, it’s really not so much of a moral code, as it is an underlying threat (i.e. ‘snitches get stitches’).” …..🤔
Uhhhh… sure… Not like black people could POSSIBLY have any INTEGRITY or make decisions based on their morals… right?!? 🙄😣 I mean, YOU of all people would know… based on your “experience” with… what, exactly? Reading black people’s minds?? 😒
What an ignorant, COMPLETELY SUBJECTIVE assertion to make.
But hey, at least you made it clear from the get-go how you feel about the community you’re referring to there.

P.S. I agree with your stance on this case being a wrongful conviction, which is always a terrible tragedy no matter if the defendant is black, white, green, or purple. My comment above was just food for thought but I’m still giving you 5 stars because its so important that more people come to understand how wrongful convictions happen. Maybe this story will resonate with the demographic of folks (blue live matter people, etc) who normally refuse to believe the VAST INjustices of the “Justice” System that affect SOOO many impoverished black families who lose their fathers/brothers/uncles, etc. to prison alllll too often over this crap (reverse-engineered investigations, etc). The only anomalous part of this story is that the defendant was a cop. Other than that— Welcome to normal life for black folks in America.
