The Taming of the Literal Shrew - Episode 4
We're back with book 4 in the Redwall series, "Mariel of Redwall." We talk about the role of female characters in this (supposedly) most feminist of the books we've read so far, why the pirates would have been better off forming a union, and what this book says about the nature of violence. Matthew has a meltdown over what the economy of this world is supposed to be, Sam speculates that Joseph the Bellmaker may have trafficked in blood minerals, and Mellie is somewhat less than impressed with Jacques's recipe construction.

Skan the Skab - Episode 3
On episode 3, we wonder if "Mattimeo" was partially written so that Jacques could air some grievances with a labor union he once worked with. There is a *lot* going on in this book, including three entirely separate villains, a Redwall mystery that doesn't seem to make much sense, and some of the most egregiously bad racial stereotyping we've seen in the books so far. Pour one out for Warbeak; we stan a Queen.

Hashtag Council of Resistance - Episode 2
For Episode 2, we go back in time to the arrival of Martin the Warrior and the first appearance of the mountain of the fire lizards, Salamandastron, in "Mossflower." We discuss the various societies we encounter (since when were the squirrels a monarchy?), the way Jacques has evolved as a writer since "Redwall," especially on gender, and debate whether or not Tsarmina, Queen of the Thousand Eyes, is a gay icon.

Martin the Watchmaker - Episode 1
On our very first episode we take you back to where it all started - Brian Jacques's 1986 novel "Redwall." Matthew, Mellie and Sam talk about whether Redwall Abbey is democratic, who the best female character is, and what exactly you use to season poached fish in a pre-industrial era.
