Episode 133 - The History of Demonic Summoning

Episode 133 - The History of Demonic Summoning

Abby and Alan dive into the history of demonic summoning, and its impact on horror. Embark with us on a shadowy expedition into the origins and evolutions of demonic summoning, where ancient gods were recast into sinister spirits under the unforgiving light of monotheism. From the Lesser Key of Solomon to the Hermetic Order of The Golden Dawn, we discuss the history of cultures and peoples who have attempted to summon demons.

The notorious Warrens, Pazuzu from "The Exorcist," and even Black Phillip of "The Witch" fame make appearances, showcasing how horror films have shaped our understanding of the infernal. We also chat through the threads of historical rituals from modern horror, examining the authenticity filmmakers strive for when portraying ancient summoning rites.

Episode 132 - The History of Truman Show Delusion

Episode 132 - The History of Truman Show Delusion

Abby and Alan discuss the history of Truman Show delusion, an example of cinema influencing culture and society. Have you ever felt like your life is a TV show and you're the unwitting star? It's more common than you think.

We talk through the research of Joel Gold, a psychiatrist who coined the term "Truman Show delusion" after seeing patients who believed they were starring in a reality show against their will. We discuss how individuals' beliefs about being the centerpiece of a reality show mirror the narrative of the iconic film, "The Truman Show," and raise questions about the power of media to shape our innermost fears and fantasies.

Everything I’ve ever wanted in a podcast

So happy I found this! I love all things horror and always find myself wanting to dive into the history of spooky things. I enjoy the skeptic vs. open-minded realist dynamic. I agree w/ Abby that the latter view creates a more fun world to live in. Great work!

You guys seem to not like any movies.

The last episode, you guys put on about demonic possession. It just seems like every single movie you disliked. In fact, the only movie you even gave a positive spin on was the one that your friends made. It gets a little frustrating, listening to this podcast because I really want to get the information, but I feel like all the Pokémon talk, and hating all horror movies, especially beloved classics like the exorcist Rosemary‘s baby and the witch kind of turns me off. I’ve noticed that lately. Your content has changed a lot and in my opinion not for the better. Maybe think about that kind of stuff when making your podcast you know. it just comes off as you guys are just trying to promote the film of your friends and doesn’t really look cool. As far as being like lovers of horror, it seems that there are lots of movies that you guys just haven’t seen that most horror movie fans would love.just my two cents I’ll give you guys another episode, but if it continues like this, I probably will unsubscribe
