Hi! We’re Liza and Mike and we have too many DVDs! So many in fact that the only way to cull our collection is to pit them against one another. Every week we’ll select two movies at random, watch them, talk about them and decide which one has GOT to GO. Two discs enter, one disc leaves. This is: DVD Deathmatch!

Great!
It’s one of my current favorites. Every week, I enjoy the breezy yet insightful conversations found in DVD Deathmatch. It is a true joy to listen to two people who have known each other for over half their lives (I think?) have a conversation about the merits of a movie, celebrate physical media, and still find surprises about one another along the way.
I also bought some Criterion Blu Rays during the last Barnes and Noble sale, so I feel Mike’s pain.
For movie buffs and pop culture mavens, but for normal people too :)
I adore this podcast. Liza and Mike have such great chemistry and are Hi- Larious! ( I listen when i’m grocery shopping or going for a walk and have often scared passers-by with a sudden snort-laugh-chortle)
I dig their smart, thoughtful insights into films they enjoy (I would never pick out myself but am now excited to see) as much as I love to hear them eviscerate ones they hate. Great perspectives, big laughs, super fun premise. Thanks for this great pod, yall!
A cinephile’s dream!
Listen, if you don’t like laughing or intelligent but entirely approachable film discussions, well then this review and likely this podcast are not for you. But if you aren’t a monster who dislikes those things, LISTEN & SUBSCRIBE!
Mike & Liza have found a unique and entertaining way to tackle the literal mountain of DVDs they call a collection and let us all in on the joke along the way. You would be hard pressed to find two people who know more about film yet also have somewhat starkly different tastes. Also, they’re both funny as hell.
Is this review unbiased? NOPE! I mean, I was in their wedding, they were both in mine and my name has even been mentioned on the podcast SEVERAL times (after I loudly mentioned that it had not been more than SEVERAL times to both hosts). But is this podcast still sharp, smart and utterly enjoyable? You bet it is!
