Welcome to Sunrise Bay Radio – broadcasting the decade of the Green New Deal from the occupied territory of the Ohlone people in the San Francisco Bay Area.
We are a team of climate activists from Sunrise Movement's Bay Area hub – talking about the intersections of the climate crisis with every part of our society and how you can get involved in averting climate catastrophe.
Every month, join our hosts Maritte and Richard and our team of correspondents, as we speak with experts, tell stories of real people affected by climate change, and fight for a livable future.

Climate Resiliency in California
The effects of climate change on our world are often talked about in the future tense, in abstract terms, and in places that are far from our home here in the San Francisco Bay Area. However, there is growing awareness about how climate change has already begun to impact our natural environments here in California.
In this episode, we take an in-depth look at the projected effects of climate change on California and more specifically the Bay Area. Our hosts, Maritte and Richard, reflect on an interview with Dr. Patrick Gonzalez (@pgonzaleztweet), a forest ecologist and climate change scientist at UC Berkeley as well as the Principal Climate Change Scientist for the U.S. National Park Service. Patrick spells out the projected effects of climate change here in California, such as sea level rise and rampant wildfires, and discusses the proposed plans for mitigating these effects.
If you haven't thought much about what climate change will look and feel like here in the Bay Area, this conversation is an insightful and cautionary dive into what issues we need to confront over the next 100 years to protect our beloved community. There is much work to do.

Climate Corporate Accountability
Corporations are largely responsible for creating the climate crisis, but what are they actually doing to avert ecological devastation?
Introducing SB 260 – a new bill authored by CA State Senator Scott Wiener that would require large corporations that do business in California to accurately report their carbon footprint and develop plans to reduce emissions inline with keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius.
In this episode, we speak with Catherine Atkin from Carbon Accountable (@CO2accountable), and learn why this bill is important, how it works, and what we can do to make it law.

ACTION ALERT – Demand healthy California homes: https://earthjustice.org/action/healthy-homes-for-california
On this episode of Sunrise Bay Radio, our correspondents Adam Singer and Nabeela sat down with Sasan Saadat and Matt Vespa from EarthJustice! We talk about the deceptive practices collectively known as greenwashing. These practices aim to mislead the public into thinking organizations are environmentally-friendly, when in fact the organizations have just put their harmful practices in pretty packaging. Please check out the links below for further information and to learn more about how to be more truly eco-friendly!
