A crown of injustice sits on Black American heads shining bright for all the world to see and far too often, White America is dazed and confused at the sight. Claiming to have no idea how we have arrived here, White America asserts to have been "living in a bubble" when injustice suddenly slaps them in the face and pops that bubble of oblivion. This podcast is intended to be the needle that can pop that bubble without a major event as the catalyst. Join us as we discuss our country's racial history and current reality, provoking ideas for real action towards restorative justice.

The Bubble Episode 6 - Overcoming The Mental Health Stigma

"While everyone - all colors - everyone is affected by stigma - no one wants to say 'I'm not in control of my mind.' No one wants to say, 'The person I love is not in control of [their] mind.' But people of color really don't want to say it because we already feel stigmatized by virtue of skin color or eye shape or accent and we don't want any more reasons for anyone to say, 'You're not good enough.'"

This episode dives into the stigma of mental health and discusses overcoming that challenge while putting yourself first. Whether it is clinical, mind and body, or lifestyle driven therapy, Gloria and Latrice tackles it all through the lens of their own mental health journeys.

The Bubble Episode 4 - From Medical Distrust to Medical Fear

The Bubble Episode 4 - From Medical Distrust to Medical Fear

In this episode the conversation from the previous podcast is continued...while episode 3 explored the complicated and horrific relationship Black Americans have had, and in a sense, continue to have, with the medical community, this episode expands on that history that has evolved the relationship into fear for many. Gloria and Latrice get candid and personal while advancing towards the impact this has on black women.

The Bubble Episode 3 - Medical Distrust in Black Culture

The Bubble Episode 3 - Medical Distrust in Black Culture

Without slavery the American experiment would have failed. American medicine would never have evolved without the presence of available black bodies. The atrocities that have been done to black Americans in the name of science has never been debated - it is an unspoken fact. The operative word being unspoken.

Healthcare disparity in the black community was born out of a systematic structure that was built to use us even in death. A valuable source. An ends to the means. Yet again another avenue in which we were not seen as human.

Gloria and Latrice talk about this matter in terms of history and present day.

The Bubble Episode 2 - THE Verdict & The Mental Toll

The Bubble Episode 2 - THE Verdict & The Mental Toll

Racism is a charge on America’s soul. With the George Floyd verdict there is a sense of accountability versus justice. Initially, it felt like a win...but was it? The pain that racism has inflicted on the psyche of minorities in America has yet to be addressed. We tend to focus on what’s happening to us physically while not paying enough attention to the impact on our mind and spirit.

Join Gloria and Latrice as they discuss not being okay, why that is, and what we each can do to take steps towards addressing this reality through education and activation.

The Bubble Episode 1 - What is the Bubble?

The Bubble Episode 1 - What is the Bubble?

America has been repeatedly presented with opportunities to make amends with its racial history. The crown of injustice that has been placed on Black American heads is shining bright for all the world to see and far too often, White America sits dazed and confused at the sight. Claiming to have no idea how we have arrived here, White America asserts to have been "living in a bubble" when injustice suddenly slaps them in the face and pops that bubble of oblivion. This podcast is intended to be the needle that can pop that bubble without a major event as the catalyst. Come with us as we discuss issues within and between cultures in our nation, facing our country's racial history and current reality, and hopefully provoke ideas for real action towards restorative justice. Remember, if you don’t know your history you are bound to repeat it.
