    ADHD in the workplace

    ADHD in the workplace

Harvard Medical School estimates that somewhere around 4-5% of the total adult population have ADHD, so it’s very likely that you have worked with at least one person with ADHD in your career so far - it is around four times more commonly diagnosed than autism. If you’re an employer, then statistically 4 or 5 people in every 100 have the condition. And although many people are nervous about what living with ADHD might mean, some of the traits that come with the condition can be strengths. Research shows that those with ADHD tend to be more creative, independent, or fast-paced, compared to others.

So how can we best support your fellow colleagues and employees to help give them the resources they need to manage their condition, tap into their creative capabilities and thrive at work? In this episode, join Georgina Wilczek as she catches up with James Deignan from Texthelp, a self-confessed 'ideas machine' who has ADHD himself, to find out about what it is like living and working with the condition, how colleagues and managers can best support those with ADHD or a similar neurodiverse condition, and how best to utilise the super-creative idea generation skills of many ADHD-ers to be of benefit to the whole company.

The Future of Work: Bruce Daisley on Flexible Working, The Great Resignation, Diversity and Inclusion and more

The Future of Work: Bruce Daisley on Flexible Working, The Great Resignation, Diversity and Inclusion and more

Have you had a change of job recently? On the INCLUSION podcast today, we’re talking about working flexibly, and flexible working.

The so-called ‘great resignation’ we’ve been hearing such a lot about over the past year would suggest that many of us have changed job, and seemingly, we’re not necessarily choosing to stick with the traditional corporate workplace in our latest roles. And in general, post-pandemic, many are noticing that employees are becoming a lot choosier about the work they take on, where they want to work from, and when they prefer to complete their work across the week. So is this trend just a blip or a definite change to the way we work? And is it an advantage or a disadvantage for businesses?

On the Inclusion podcast today, we’re very pleased to bring you an exclusive speech made for our Inclusion Festival by Bruce Daisley, ex Twitter VP, author of the EatSleepWorkRepeat podcast, and a self-described workplace culture enthusiast. This is what he has to say.

Dame Stephanie Shirley - Breaking Gender Bias

Dame Stephanie Shirley - Breaking Gender Bias

Dame Stephanie Shirley CH has written a speech specifically for Diversity Network in celebration of International Women's Day on the topic of breaking gender bias in the workplace, and glass ceilings everywhere!

Dame Stephanie ‘Steve’ Shirley CH is a pioneering tech entrepreneur and founder of the autism charity Autistica. In 1962, Dame Stephanie created a software company when the concept of software barely existed. Freelance Programmers employed women to work on complex projects such as Concorde’s black box recorder from the comfort of their own home. Dame Stephanie empowered a generation of women in technology, giving them unheard of freedom to choose their own hours and manage their own workloads, working from home, and around children, on their own terms. The business thrived and she gradually transferred ownership to her staff, creating 70 millionaires in the process.

A keen advocate for gender equality and inclusion, we hope you enjoy listening to Dame Stephanie’s words of wisdom for us all today. Female empowerment in the workplace has come a long way in many companies since the 1960s, but as we know, equal pay and equal opportunity is still a long way off.. there remains much more to do!

Happy International Women's Day and Women's History Month - here's to gender equality everywhere - particularly at work!
