Episode 78: How to create a demo reel on a budget

Episode 78: How to create a demo reel on a budget

As promised to Rachel- a whole bunch of advice on the do's and don't of creating a demo reel!  Rachel asked:

" I have a request for a podcast episode, as an "amateur" aerialist who is trying to gig more, I feel comfortable with rates in my local area and am working on getting insurance, but I don't have a demo reel. And all of my footage of performances are kinda shitty phone videos, I am also not financially able to hire a videographer to make me some new footage. Production companies who I've spoken with have asked for demos, and I totally get it, but I'm not sure what to do.
I'm sure I'm not the only one in this pickle, so hoping you could help some cash poor newbies get hired."

    What you will hear:

Episode 77: Honoring the Rib Ache

Episode 77: Honoring the Rib Ache

This episode is brought you to by my friend KT's question:  "Honoring the rib ache!  It’d be really cool to hear a deep dive on it/your experiences ignoring and following that feeling.  I revisited the idea recently when I found myself doing a bunch of random shit I wasn’t enjoying just to make more money."

    What you'll hear:
BossUP 2024 is live and I'm STOKED to be speaking on a stage with a couple heroes of mine:  Dr. Shante Cofield and Jill Coleman.  Dates are October 10-11:  https://www.jillfitprograms.com/bossupWhat is  "the rib ache"? 4:40  (hint:  it's best described by playing The Game)My own personal story of the rib ache, and how it ruined everything (and saved my life) 6:04Other ways to tap into the rib ache 13:13Why platitudes like "follow your bliss" are well intended but meaningless 14:00How rib aches can become boundaries, and boundaries can become rules...and sometimes rules need to be broken.Me making and breaking my own rules, years apart 17:00

Thank you the wonderful Elizabeth Finn for inspiring this episode with her very good question:

How do you navigate the tension between being a generous performer and remaining true to your artistic integrity?

My obvious first answer which will surprise no one 4:45The very first and most important reason I continue to espouse my first obvious answer 5:29What the audience REALLY wants from you 5:50The unfortunate result that can arise from a pandering performance 6:30The Quadruped, which I conceived during the boring patronize-y concertHow to conquer personal insecurity...  If you listen to nothing else I've ever said, please listen to this.  9:00A story about how it can be a good thing to give the audience what they want 11:00An invitation to you 13:00Some encouragement to those making work 15:05One more story about when I took some advice from a famous fancy coach that was frankly bad advice I should have ignored 16:33
