    Welcome to Trade Secrets!

    Welcome to Trade Secrets!

We did our first show today, after three takes, it was a bit of a burnout, but we’re rolling now. Now I have to get the RSS 2.0 feed configured, even though Manila doesn’t have direct support for enclosures. (Postscript: Got it done. Now I have to do the user interface, but the backend part works. Jake let me know if you want the code.)"
The first day got an email from a fan saying that Dave knows his tech stuff, but he hopes I won’t say the same things about President George W Bush on Trade Secrets that I say on Scripting News. I responded with a disclaimer, you don’t want to listen to this if you’re voting for President W. Or, if you’re smart, you should listen to it. Never hurts to get another point of view. But we’re not nice guys, or overly sensitive to the feelings of Republicans.
Okay so Kerry changes his mind. We’ll work on that after he’s elected. Bush is much worse. He does crazy illogical and super-dangerous things. He should change his mind, the problem is he doesn’t. Anyway, we think Bush will make a great former President and look forward to throwing a great going-away party for him on November 3.

    Say goodbye to Twinkies?

    Say goodbye to Twinkies?

Today’s Trade Secrets begins with some bad news about Twinkies, and ends with an idea about an aggregator for Netflix use. More comments and links here later.

    Trade Secrets September 25 2004

Earlier this evening (my time) Dave suggested we try out skype in anticipation of our next TS podcast. It turned into an episode filled with brainfarts, laughter and 2 geeks trying to configure a new (non-skype) voip application.

    Leakage

    Leakage

I’ve learned over the past weeks to always have the audio recording setup ready when Dave and I chat. We always talk voip and have been trying different setups and applications. But inadvertantly, one of will say ‘we should be recording this’ and I flip the switch.
This morning Dave was up early and we recorded a podcast, where we talked about ’leakage’, played some prince and finally got the sip-phone stuff working

How can I miss you when you won't go away?

How can I miss you when you won't go away?

Today’s Trade Secrets is about everything of importance to the world today.
The only thing we missed is Jon Stewart’s outburst about the President’s ‘group of folks’ line. Group of folks? Group of folks?, Stewart raged. A group of folks is what you run into at the Olive Garden. The President was referring to Osama bin Laden and the group of worldwide terrorist… folks. Okay.
At no extra cost, a few little soliloquys, nothing earth shaking, just little ones.
And oh yea. Mt St Helens.

Will Kerry win the Presidency so Dave gets a Mac?

Will Kerry win the Presidency so Dave gets a Mac?

A shocking truth is revealed in today’s Trade Secrets podcast. It’s true. If John Kerry wins the election I’ll get a Mac. Let the record show it’s no longer in doubt. I may be a Mac user before the year is out.
Sound quality is somewhat improved this time. I don’t sound like I’ve had my mouth shot full of novacaine, but I sure sound like I got a lithp. Then an iPodder started running and chopped my speech to bits. Next time we’ll use Skype. It’ll sound better.
