These Ladies 'Kill' It
Are you the kind of individual who views social mores through the prism of heteronormativity and gender performance but also loves nothing more than watching "Say Yes to the Dress" marathons on lazy Sundays? Then 'TV Overkill' is for you. Alex and Christina offer a high-minded perspective on the 'so-called' low culture medium of television. The pair vacillate flawlessly between pointed critique and unabashed fangirl-itude in a way that leaves the listener both thought- and squee-provoked. Keep it coming, ladies!
Insightful, Promising Start
Christina and Alex provide thoughtful, witty, and clearly heartfelt insights to some of their favorite television shows, and this podcast manages to be more substantive than just two 20-somethings opining about pop culture. These two are able to ground their reviews in a deep knowledge of both American and British television as well as sincere considerations of pacing, characterization, and style. In this first episode you can hear them searching for their stride, but by the end they strike a comfortable and confident pace. Looking forward to the next installment.
Parks and Recreation!
I listened to this because I'm a huge fan of Parks and Recreation and Amy Poehler (and pretty much the entire rest of the cast too). Alex and Christina talk about several shows on this cast, but I'm kind of glad they waited until towards the end to cover P&R because it took them awhile to relax and find their groove in talking together (this is their first podcast together). Actually their insights about Community were pretty interesting as well; I watch Community, but not as avidly as P&R, so I wasn't as invested. These two definitely know their stuff when it comes to TV so I will look for their next release and hope it covers something I'm into.
