Episode 14: Ginger Snaps versus Jennifer's Body
In this episode, Amanda and Leigh discuss two recent cult classics and feminist horror films, Ginger Snaps and Jennifer's Body. Happy very belated Halloween! A perfect storm of illnesses and international travel worked against us this month.
CWs: Suicide, rape/sexual assault, murder, needles, drug use, predatory men, death/murder, cannibalism, body horror, dismemberment, animal death, fetishizing of WLW content, fire, kidnapping, PTSD, discussion of toxic masculinity behaviours, *cis-normative discussion
*The entire conversation is very cis-normative in talking about girls/women and puberty. Neither of us believe that menstruation makes a person a woman or that only women menstruate. The conversations we had about these films were about the representation of these things in the context of cis girls/women, who seemed to be the targeted audience, and we tried to do so in a way that wasn’t invalidating to others. Please let us know if we did not accomplish this. We always have a goal to be mindful of these things, but our own internal biases sometimes pop up, and we know that our intentions do not negate any negative impact we may have with our conversations. -
Mini Episode 13
In this mini episode recorded on Halloween, Amanda discusses the follow-up polls for All the President's Men and Spotlight, introduces the movies for the next full episode, and raves about the new Halloween film and the show The Haunting of Hill House (yes, it's a show, but for the Halloween mini it felt appropriate).
