Quinta Brunson (episode 214 rewind!) • Films To Be Buried With with Brett Goldstein #297
LOOK OUT! It’s only Films To Be Buried With! A REWIND CLASSIC!
Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with the excellent writer, actor showrunner and much more QUINTA BRUNSON!
Below will be the original writeup for this episode which originally aired on 22nd September 2022. A tremendous episode which might have been a first meeting with Quinta for some, but by now with any luck you'll be well acquainted with her work and the wide world of Abbott Elementary! This episode was at a truly busy point of her career and it's only gotten busier, so enjoy this look back into the recent past to hear some wisdom and fun and good times from not long ago.
Hopefully there'll be the new season kicking off next week so stay locked on for that - but as always, thanks so much for being here with us through the 'bridge season' while things are being constructed.
It's me on the intro/outro (your producer Buddy Peace), so don't be alarmed. I mean you no shock or surprise.

STOP – Emmy time... A marvelous chat with Quinta, who you might know from the wonderful Abbott Elementary in more recent / present times. If you don't know Quinta, consider this your introduction to someone who is making power moves in the world of excellent media - she is BUSY but as you'll hear, has a proper grip on things and maintains clarity, sanity and that all important fun-ness that is so necessary in such a high pressure environment (showrunning and all that entails). So take a nice break and enjoy this lovely episode, and of course check Abbott Elementary among her other work!

Below will be the original writeup for this episode which originally aired on 6th September 2018. A marvellous episode marking the first appearance of Ed, which would open the door to a further two down the line. This is prime Ed and Brett, and even an appearance from other show pal Lou Sanders who sews a seed for her eventual Cuddle Club podcast! You heard it here first (all the way back in 2018). Thanks for tuning in to the re-appraised archive - we'll be back with the new goodness soon - all is a little chaotic right now but we'll return with all new eps soon as humanly possible.
It's me on the intro/outro (your producer Buddy Peace), so don't be alarmed. I mean you no shock or surprise.

A nice and giddy episode as Brett and Ed join up deep into their respective runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, high off insomnia and crepes, and down for some good time fun and entertainment. It’s a bundle of fun for certain but do be warned, there are some elements where some heavy films are referenced - so with that in mind, be prepared for some potentially tough ground in there… ALSO - there are spoilers for Hereditary so watch out for that when they start going in… I’ll make a note below on times. Otherwise, this episode has it all! Big men acting as nannies, Hulk Hogan, horror chat, film gossip, just tons of fun for you devour and get dizzy from, like these two. Highly enjoyable - go in!!!

Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with the very hilarious actor, comic, writer and vocal talent DESIREE BURCH!
Below will be the original writeup for this episode which originally aired on 16th September 2021. A fully delicious episode containing the key ingredients for a winner - fun, serious, silly, a little naughty here and there, it's got it all. Desiree's a glorious presence and it's an episode very much worth returning back to. On that note - thanks for tuning in to the re-appraised archive - we'll be back with the new goodness soon - all is a little chaotic right now but we'll return with all new eps soon as humanly possible.

We catch up with Desiree on holiday, a perfect spot from which to get into all elements of her personal and cinematic history including a LOT up top about the various truths and idiosynchracies involved in the world of a dominatrix. It is incredible stuff but if that’s something that you’d rather miss, just jump ahead to half hour in, or so. On top of that gold, Desiree goes into the nuanced differences of the throuple vs the threesome, waiting rooms with life and death, growing up in Diamond Bar, California and a ‘give you the chills’ moment concerning her scariest film. These are all gems waiting for your eager ears. You shall enjoy!

A super nice get-along with Brett and Kiell as they proper get into it on the subject of this whole life and death and film thing… Kiell is busy filming in Guadalupe (being tested like 5 times every hour, don’t ya worry) which must have been tough for Brett having to view screensaver / wallpaper-perfect views of paradise coming from Kiell’s zoom view. It’s great though, as they get into all he’s doing, been up to, past lives, not a yes and not a no, pots of despair, therapy, drama school madness, shedding no tears and past rap interest. There was a degree of environmental wind to balance out so this might not sound quite as ‘full’ as your regularly scheduled episodes - you shouldn’t notice too much upheaval though. ANYWAY - enjoy, it’s a goody…

A fantastic chat with Ben and Brett, ranging from fun and funny to honest and heartfelt, with all the rich, cinematic goodness you could wish for. Ben has been in a TON of films and programs in his career which you can dig through in the links below, and he goes through a lot in this episode including good pal Will Poulter, Shadow & Bone, Westworld, Narnia, Los Angeles vs London, swag, on set scare tactics and his own music, but SO much more. You'll love it - whether you know Ben or not, this one will bring you pure joy.

Brett is Best
The film that means the most to me because the circumstances around seeing it is Shrek.
In December, my dad was recovering from procedures to treat liver cancer. We wanted him as well as possible, as quickly as possible, so he was seeing specialists two hours away from my home. On his third stint in the hospital, we were waiting for his pancreas to settle down after being irritated by an operation. The most serious things were passed- they removed half his liver in October, so we were smooth sailing. He was getting around and communicating well, so I didn’t need to make the trip down. I did, though, and found myself having a 7:00AM start to a long day in the hospital. The cafeteria was inexplicably closed, so all I had to eat was a couple of snacks I happened to squirrel away. Somehow, hospital sitting really takes it out of you, and by 8:00 that evening I was wiped out. Dad couldn’t talk much because the pancreatitis caused pain and difficulty, but he told me to head back home. I dawdled, and he flipped channels until he saw the opening credits to Shrek. My dad loved movies, and he had a particular fondness for Shrek. He’d already seen it a million times, but he wanted to watch it then, and I stayed in our comfortable quiet to watch with him. When it was over, I tucked him into bed, hooked up all his contraptions: feet squeezers for clots, IV in the right spot, and left for the night. By Monday afternoon, he was in ICU, and by that night he was gone.
My dad was the person who loved me just because I was- with no conditions or qualifications- and gosh, that was a good feeling. I put the memory of that night in the box of small blessings that comfort me now that he’s gone. I had one last night we got to spend enjoying one of his favorites, and then tuck him into bed for a change.
I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to watch Shrek again, but it’ll always be important to me.
