I’m Shelby Hohsfield. At times, I was an ex-Mormon, agnostic, a Sunday Christian, want to be Buddhist, and a New Age follower, but God had very different plans for me. The whole time I was living in one very big lie- that I was in charge of my own enoughness and my works were going to save me and my life. 
 
Don’t get me wrong, I am all about self-help and personal development, but as a born-again, fully transformed Christian, I learned there is the world's way and there is God's way. 
 
To quote CS Lewis, "The more we get ourselves out of the way and let Him take us over, the more truly ourselves we become." Mere Christianity. 
You are enough not because of what you have done but because of what He has done, and He lives through you.

ABOUT YOUR HOST
Finding Faith Above is hosted by Shelby Hohsfield. Shelby grew up in a mixed faith home and attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon or LDS) church until she was 18. As most people do when they leave the church, 85% actually, Shelby left God altogether when she left the LDS church. It wasn't until she was pregnant with her son that God was made evident to her.
From there sparked a quest to FIND FAITH, a fleeting idea that challenged her at every step.
After trying all matters of religion for years, she was struck one night when some big things literally brought her to her knees- When things got super hard it was the surrender to the one true God that changed everything about Shelby's life, belief, and understanding of this universe we live in.
After a 20-year journey after leaving the church, she finally found faith above.
As Jesus asked us to do, Shelby now dedicates herself to the great commission- telling the world the good news of Jesus.

One of the biggest hurdles Ex-LDS ladies have to scale is figuring out how to teach our kids about God.
When we don’t have an example and are coming to motherhood with so much religious baggage, the task of teaching our kids about Jesus can be overwhelming. We are just trying to figure this all out ourselves, let alone be a guide to one of God’s precious children.

Today's Guest:
Eric Johnson has been a student of Mormonism since 1987 when he served a summer mission outreach in Utah. Eric graduated from San Diego State University (1985, BA in Journalism) as well as at Bethel Seminary San Diego (1991, Master’s of Divinity). Eric cohosts the daily radio program Viewpoint on Mormonism  and writes for MRM’s Mormonism Researched newsletter. His new book is Introducing Christianity to Mormons (Harvest House, 2022). He is also the co-author of Answering Mormons’ Questions: Ready Responses for Inquiring Latter-day Saints (Kregel, 2013), Mormonism 101: Examining the Religion of the Latter-day Saints (Baker Book, 2015), Mormonism 101 for Teens (MRM, 2016) as well as serving as a co-editor of Sharing the Good News with Mormons (Harvest House, 2018). Eric served as an associate editor for the Apologetics Study Bible for Students (B&H, 2010) and is a regular contributor to the Christian Research Journal. Eric taught high school Bible classes for 17 years (1993-2010) at Christian High School (El Cajon, CA) and 8 years as an adjunct English professor at Grossmont College (El Cajon,CA); in addition, he instructed classes at San Diego State University and Bethel Seminary San Diego. Eric is married to Terri; together they have three daughters: Carissa, Janelle, and Hannah. He and his wife live in the Salt Lake City area.
 
His most recent book is Introducing Christianity to Mormons, which came out on September 13th. This book is published by Harvest House and is helping Christians better understand how to share their Christian faith with their LDS friends and family members.
