Finding Your Why with Professor of Sports Leadership and Coaching for High-Performance Cathy Utzschneider

Madam Athlete

On today’s episode, I’m talking to Professor of Sports Leadership and Coaching for High-Performance Dr. Cathy Utzschneider about finding your why.

Cathy is a professor teaching courses on high performance at Boston College and the founder of MOVE!, a goal-setting program that emphasizes balancing athletic achievement with the challenges of everyday life. Cathy is also a world-class masters runner and has studied and written about the unique challenges of masters runners.

We talk about:

  • The important moment when Cathy learned that the most important part of any physical goal is to figure out what the goal means to the individual and why they’re pursuing it.
  • The crucial role of rest and reflection in the process of goal achievement.
  • How transition periods in our lives present us with the greatest amount of uncertainty but also have the greatest capacity for creativity and growth.
