Firdaus Kharas: Creativity & Cartoons As Catalysts For Epic Social Change DNA Of Purpose

    • Entrepreneurship

Welcome To Another Episode of The Decoding Purpose Podcast.

We are living in a world where the social problems we face are impossible to ignore. After all, we are navigating a collective ‘dark night of the soul’. A night being defined by a global pandemic, the implications of climate change, the impact of digitisation on our well being and many other issues relating to social justice and equality all over the world.

In 2020 it is crystal clear that there is no shortage of problems to solve, but what we also know is fear-mongering or focussing only on the issues rarely ever provides the solutions that we need. On the flip side, optimism, hopeful thinking and creativity is where we find the power to pioneer a new future. And sometimes it takes darkness for us to look within and more clearly see the potential of our light.

The big question I hope to answer in today's interview is this: How can we harness the infinite power of creative thinking to inspire and influence behaviour change? How can we use our purpose as pioneers of a new future, to tell stories that inspire a shift in thinking about the future in which we are co-creating?
For all of these reasons, I am over the moon to be spending the next hour with Firdaus Kharas who has been at the forefront of using his creativity, creating animations for social change for the last 25 years.
As the founder of Chocolate Moose Media, Firdaus is a pioneer in the world of social enterprise. He has created 4,000 animated shorts, versioned into 371 languages that have been used in 198 countries and seen by over a billion people.

In that time he has addressed deeply sensitive social justice issues, using animation as a tool to enable global commonality and to cut through the filters of personal perception to enable us to remain receptive to messages of influence we may not otherwise have considered.

Firdaus has been showered with 110 awards, he has received the prestigious Peabody Award and was named one of the world’s 50 Most Talented Social Innovators and the Best Global Informative Short Film Producer for his unique ability to cross the barriers to human communications like language, religion and culture.

Recently he has also released a brand new book: Creativity - The Key to a Remarkable Life. In the book, Firdaus provides straightforward advice on how to open your mind to become a creative thinker, and some of those ideas we will also explore today.

So get your creative hat on, and let's dive into the world of animation and storytelling to ignite epic social change.
