In this episode, Ashtyn takes over hosting duties for Ciara, and Brazilia and Alex are on to talk about how a perma-19-year-old man thinks scoring points is disrespectful, also, lots of d*ck stuff (too much, honestly).

Turn the audio up for this one, because Ciara, Ashtyn, and Brazilia are whispering their way through the pod. Or at least, one of them is. They chat about The Choke, Russel Westbrook heading to the bench, LaMelo's tatto, and do some visual work.

This year was supposed to have a lot of plans. I had decided that 2023 was gonna be a Good Year. And then I got laid off 10 days into the year.

It’s been a rough time, but when I wasn’t worrying about bills and my personal career growth, I was distracting myself with things I cared about, like basketball. Unfortunately, a lot of people who talk about basketball are…truly unwell. I see so many basketball takes that I mentally categorize into two boxes: “why is this something you care about?” and/or “why would you put this thought out into the public?”.

But then there’s the Flagrant pod! These folks approach basketball with such a love and knowledge of the sport while still understanding that these are actual humans. They get that this is a game predicated on people being paid large sums of money to play a children’s sport (at the highest level), and that it’s simply not that serious (except when it is!). The hosts are all so smart, funny, and talented, and they get that things like labor, race, and gender play an intrinsic role in, well, all of it! They get that basketball can be as beautiful and well-choreographed as a ballet, but it can also be as goofy and weird as a dog dragging his butt across the floor.

And apologies for getting all parasocial, but each episode does feel like just hanging out with your buds for an hour, talking ball, and catching up on life. It’s fun and comforting.

I don’t really know what’s next for me, what I’ll be doing in the future, near or far, but I know I’ll be listening to these folks talk about bakkyball, cancel discourses, and list off their rosebudthorns for as long as they feel like it.

wow what a podcast

Such a brave concept to combine humor and basketball together. I couldn’t believe my ears, I didn’t know sports pods could be funny. I think I had forgotten how to laugh, and now I can’t stop. You’ll be hearing from my lawyers.
