Leonie-Ruth Acland
“Changing lives and changing the world, together, is what gets me out of bed in the morning, brings me fulfilment and powers me through my busy days.”
Leonie-Ruth has cycled through many career iterations during her 67 years: full-time mum, language teacher (Indonesian and Japanese), director of the Spiritual Meeting Place at the University of Canberra and advocacy roles in equity and diversity in higher education, the women’s sector and the multicultural sector.
In each career iteration, her focus has been on connection and flourishing for the individual and society. She now finds herself on a new exploit in her life adventure: co-creating and holding space for the healing and regeneration of soil, soul and society, so that all life on earth can flourish. The introduction of soil into the mix comes with her involvement in her permaculture-inspired smallholding, Tanglewood, in rural Australia.
In addition to farming, she and her husband are co-creating an intentional community at Tanglewood. Leonie-Ruth is a mentor and coach, a musician, a creative cook, and Nana Ruth to five grandchildren.
