Foot Stompin Free Scottish Music Podcast

I’ve been following this podcast from the beginning and it’s where I find almost all of my new Scottish trad music. Simon does a great job at presenting a range of styles from trad to modern. He always finds the latest and greatest, but he also includes some old stuff. I first got turned on to Scots trad by Silly Wizard and the Tannahill Weavers in the 1970s, but it is amazing to me how many super-creative and talented artists continue to come out of Scotland all the time. Many of them are less known over here on the US west coast, but now that we can get trad tunes electronically, it’s getting easier to add to the music collection. In addition to this podcast, I subscribe to Alan O’Leary’s Copperplate podcast for Irish trad. I only wish I could find a similar podcast for trad dance music from the Canadian Maritimes and Quebec, as well as New England contradance music. Then I’d be in northern fiddle tune heaven!
