Kane PKs

… “England have such great penalty takers. Kane,” claimed Johnny, the Jacob Rees-Mogg of the Football Press Box, on 30 September 2024. Ah, yes, Dog Bleep Harry’s PK in the 84th minute of Chuck’s 2023 World Cup quarterfinal HUMILIATION to France exemplified 55 YEARS of THE THRONE’S GLOBAL FAILURE on the pitch. Arrogant and incompetent as always, Johnny. Pure Fleet Street to the core. *** Nothing was more enjoyable than the whining of The Drunken Sot’s minute-by-minute about his loathed Man City on 31 August 2024. The Drunken Sot’s endless pouting as his hated City defeated the Hammers, 3-1, left Guardian readers elated and only added to The Drunken Sot’s public self-humiliation. Bravo! More!

But over the course of time, I found myself listening to them less and less. And the times I did listen, I found it becoming a chore to get through an episode. It not being a “fun” or “banter” podcast is fine, but it doesn’t make up for that aspect with high level football analysis. It’s either very on the surface, match highlight reels levels of insight, or reactive punditry to football-narrative drivel from other outlets, such as Sky Sports, and their punditry. Neither of which provides any interesting or insightful view point from the sport they cover. Barring an appearance from the likes of say, Nicky Bandini, most of these guests and hosts have either smug, stale, or uninteresting contributions, filled with lazy narratives and cliches. As a result, the podcast has really gone downhill over the years.
