Fort Winnebago Surgeons Quarters with Cindy McLaughlin Tales From The Tour

    • Personal Journals

In Portage, Wisconsin, a historic site offers educational tours by day and paranormal experiences by night. Cindy McLaughlin, the State curator at the Fort Winnebago Surgeons Quarters, describes ghostly encounters at the site that range from knocking, creaking, and head grabbing to items appearing or breaking without cause. The Surgeons Quarters (built 1816 - 1819) is a 5 room building that was originally the home of Francois LeRoi, a man who ran a portaging and fur trading business between the Fox and Wisconsin Rivers. By 1828, U.S. soldiers arrived and incorporated the building into Fort Winnebago. The site is run by the Wisconsin Society Daughters of the American Revolution and is open from May 15 to October 15. Special arrangements can be made for after hours exploration.
