Ep 12: Introverts Do Not Network. They Build Relationships

Many introverts believe they are bad at networking. I disagree. In this solo episode, I share a different perspective based on my own experience. Introverts may not enjoy traditional networking, but we are wired to build something more powerful. Real relationships are built on trust, consistency, and genuine connection. I share two personal stories from my career that shaped how I think about relationship building. In one, a relationship I built early in my career led to a pivotal recommendation that helped me return to a company when I needed it most. In another, a simple response to a LinkedIn message led to helping someone land a role. Years later, that connection is still active, still appreciative, and still growing. These are not networking tactics. This is the long game. I also connect these experiences to ideas from Adam Grant’s Give and Take and the concept of being an Otherish giver. Someone who gives generously while still being intentional about growth and opportunity. In this episode, you will learn: • Why introverts do not need to follow traditional networking rules• How to build relationships that create real opportunities over time• The difference between collecting contacts and cultivating trust• Why giving first, and sometimes paying it forward, creates long-term impact• How introverted strengths can become your advantage in networking If you have ever felt uncomfortable networking, this episode will help you reframe it. You do not need to become someone else to succeed. You need to build relationships in a way that is true to who you are.

Ep. 11: From People-Pleaser to Powerful. Highly Sensitive Person and Coach Stephanie Linn on HSP, the Orchid Effect, and Finding Your Flow

You were told you were too much, too sensitive, too aware, too affected by your environment. What if that was never a flaw? In this episode of Forward Quest Powering Introvert's Success, I sit down with Stephanie Linn, certified professional coach, entrepreneur, and highly sensitive person, to explore the powerful overlap between introversion and high sensitivity. Steph shares her own arc, from a hypervigilant people-pleaser who played small, to a coach who turned her sensitivity into a superpower. Her path from professional organizer to coach is a masterclass in trusting what you are wired for. Did you know that 70% of highly sensitive people are introverts? Stephanie unpacks what it means to have a nervous system that takes in more than most, and why that wiring is the foundation of some of the most powerful qualities you can have. We also explore the Orchid and the Dandelion, the idea that highly sensitive people do not struggle because they are fragile; they struggle because they are in the wrong environment. Put an orchid in the right conditions, and it flourishes beyond any dandelion in the garden. And in a surprise twist, I find out live on this episode that I might be an HSP myself. I confirmed it later with Steph's quiz. The link is in the show notes. We also play "How Introverted Are You", our signature guest segment. Steph's result might surprise you. If you have ever wondered whether your sensitivity is a limitation or a superpower, this conversation will change how you see yourself. Ep 9: You Can Lead While Feeling Like an Imposter: Bob Russo on Introversion, Courage, and Trusting the Universe

Bob Russo spent 33 years at IBM and retired as an executive, all while privately feeling like he did not belong there. In this deeply personal conversation, Bob shares how he succeeded as an introvert living with imposter syndrome and self-doubt. He explains why courage comes before confidence and how he learned to step forward even when every instinct told him to retreat inward, Bob also reveals the internal force that guided him through his biggest risks, what he calls an unconditional trust in the universe. This trust allowed him to come out at age 45 after 25 years of marriage, trusting that he would not lose his family, his career, or himself. And in one of the most relatable moments of the conversation, Bob shares the introvert survival skill no one talks about. Sometimes leadership means giving yourself permission to step into the bathroom, sit quietly, and reset before stepping back out to lead. In this episode, you will learn: • Why introversion is not a leadership limitation • How imposter syndrome can become a source of humility and strength • Why courage must come before confidence • How introverted leaders sustain their energy • Why trusting yourself matters more than feeling ready This episode is a reminder that you do not need to eliminate fear, self-doubt, or introversion to succeed. You need the courage to move forward with them. Please check out Bob's work as a Death Doula at PeaceOutEarth.Com. 4. Ep. 7: You Don't Need to Act Extroverted to Lead with guest Dr. Christina Blackburn

    JAN 19

Ep. 7: You Don't Need to Act Extroverted to Lead with guest Dr. Christina Blackburn

Dr. Christina Blackburn is an award-winning social scientist, Professor at Parsons School of Strategic Design at the New School, and a community advocate. In this episode, she reflects on her journey as an introvert and shares how deep preparation, mindset shifts, and evidence-based conviction have shaped her leadership and voice.Key Takeaways from the Conversation with Dr. Christina Blackburn 1. Reflecting on Inner Signals to Course Correct Christina noticed clear signals: emotional overwhelm and energy depletion after long periods of social interaction. She reflected deeply and used those signals to adjust how she prepared, showed up, and recovered. Rather than ignoring these feelings, she created a plan to combat the areas she felt were weaknesses.  2. Building Communication Capacity Rather Than Trying to Act “Extroverted.” Instead of forcing a personality shift, Christina intentionally chose structured, people-facing hospitality roles and volunteering that helped her build new communication skills and confidence. 3. Channeling the Inner Critic Into Readiness When negative voices surfaced, Christina used distancing language (“Christina, you’re not tired, you just woke up”) and redirected that inner voice, grounding herself in effort, readiness, and a positive/reality framing. Realizing that our thoughts are a choice, and that she could make ones closer to reality.  4. Using Depth of Preparation to Quiet Outcome Fear Christina defines success by whether she gave her all, not by outcomes alone. Her habit of consistently showing up, being prepared, and trusting God affords her the confidence needed to succeed or learn from each endeavor she takes on.
