Score Yourself in These 4 Areas (Spouse, Kids, Work, Health) with Dane Espegard

Score Yourself in These 4 Areas (Spouse, Kids, Work, Health) with Dane Espegard

Fellas, here’s an interesting one for you…
How would your wife rate you on a scale from 1 to 10 in the areas of Work, Health, Kids and Marriage?
That’s one of the big questions during today’s conversation with my buddy, Dane Espegard.
Dane’s a member of Front Row Dads, rock star relationship builder, and someone who is continuously improving in all 4 of these buckets.
I know for me, it’s pretty tough to nail all of these areas, all of the time...
So, I wanted to know, what makes Dane’s relationship with his wife and kids so strong - and how does he manage to play at such a high level in his personal and professional life at the same time?
Dane drops a ton of wisdom on what does/doesn’t work for him and his family. We talk about the importance of being attuned with your wife’s emotional needs, the benefits of therapy, healthy forms of fighting, and much more!
    Dane Espegard Podcast Highlights
Dane’s experience with his parents getting divorced when he was in his 20s. Why my dog stands ON the table while we have dinner.  The positive and negative sides of COVID. Why his family is going on vacation with horses. When Dane and his wife fight -- why, and what does his wife need more of in order to feel loved.  How would your wife rate you in Work, Health, Kids, and Marriage? What do you and your wife need in order to feel intimately connected to one another? My goal to talk how I would if a therapist was watching. Why do Dane and his wife have such a great relationship? Why my 6 year old son started having nightmares after I had a big fight with Tatyana and what adjustments we had to make in our house.  What are clarity breaks? Why community is your greatest survival tool. Get the Full Show Notes

How to Identify Your Blind Spots as a Husband and Father with Nathanael Chawkin

How to Identify Your Blind Spots as a Husband and Father with Nathanael Chawkin

Can you think back to a moment when you lost your cool with your wife or kids? What’s going on when our emotions get the best of us?
What if instead of defaulting to anger, judgement, defensiveness and frustration, we could better understand the feelings of everyone involved, and empathize more effectively with others’ perspectives?
Helping me answer these questions is Nathanael Chawkin, who specializes in interpersonal communication dynamics for both executive teams and families alike.
I first started working with Nathanael one-on-one so that I could better understand my triggers; the things that really set me off.
He’s helped me tackle some of the toughest communication challenges in my life, and has given me the necessary tools and strategies to identify my biggest emotional blind spots as a husband and father.
His approach to coaching leans on The Work of Byron Katie. If you aren’t yet familiar with The Work, it consists of four questions that allow you to look at specific problems and see exactly what is bothering you in a whole new light.
In today’s conversation, we touch on a wide variety of topics, including Nathanael’s unique upbringing in what he calls a “human potential experiment,” how he masterfully uses self-inquiry in his coaching practice (and with me), and some of the breakthroughs we’ve achieved in our sessions together. You’ll even get to hear us talk through a scenario in real-time, so you can get a taste of what it’s really like to work with Nathanael!
    Gold Nuggets
The benefits of a multi-spiritual upbringing. How he lived in a karate dojo for 2 years. The importance of owning your problems instead of trying to meditate or transcend them away. Why it’s so easy to think people are judgmental when you’re the one doing the judging. Ways people misinterpret The Work of Byron Katie.  The 80/20 Rule to help you drop in to your own inner wisdom. A framework you can use to better understand what triggers you and transform feelings through inquiry.  How to stop being your worst critic. How The Work is used in a real-life inquiry session. How The Work helps create safe places for the people we love. Big Questions Asked

How can coaching help us get perspective and see all the different arguments around an issue?  How can we use The Work of Byron Katie in our everyday lives?  What are our basic defense mechanisms–and how can we defuse them when they don’t serve us?  Why can’t we see our own blind spots without help? Where does healing come from, and how do we end patterns of trauma?  Why do we have more control when it’s us that needs to change, not our spouse or our children? Why is it so easy to stop treating ourselves like someone who is worthy of respect?  Why is it so hard for us to ask for what we really want?  Why do we need to practice the basics of inquiry when we’re not in the moment?  Where does transformation really come from? Gifts to Win Your Spouse's Heart All Year Long with John Ruhlin

Gifts to Win Your Spouse's Heart All Year Long with John Ruhlin

For a lot of guys, gift giving oftentimes lacks true meaning.
How many holidays have you made a last minute purchase the night before, or decided to buy something just because it has an impressive sticker price? As if a more expensive gift will show your wife just how much you love her lol.
Gifts should make your loved ones feel valued and appreciated, not forgotten and misunderstood. It’s something we should do because we want to, not because we have to.
And hey, I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve definitely screwed it up on multiple occasions — so you’re not in this alone!
Gifts don’t need to be bought, but they do need thought.
Joining me today to talk all about it is my good friend John Ruhlin — a master at building relationships and winning hearts using his unique approach to strategic gifting.
We hit on a bunch of topics, including intentional gifting, gifting fails, winning at Mother’s Day, making your wife feel special, balancing business & family, and more!
    Gold Nuggets
Why gifting alone can’t save a sucky business and adds insult to injury in a struggling marriage. Why the bar is so low in business gift giving - and how to give much more intentional gifts in every area of life. The value of facilitating gift giving within your family. Childhood wounds that stick with us into adulthood. Big Questions Asked

How can we better pick up on hints and clues when it comes to the intangible gifts that our partners want?  Why is it so much harder to pick a great gift for our spouse than it is for a business partner or a client?  What happens when we bring other people within families into our gift giving, thanks, and gratitude?  How can we use the traumas we faced in childhood as we show up for our kids? How to Play Off Your Partner's Parenting Strengths with Brandon Miller

How to Play Off Your Partner's Parenting Strengths with Brandon Miller

As entrepreneurs and business owners, we’ve all taken tests like Myers-Briggs, DISC, and Core Values Index to better understand who we are and where we naturally shine. But so few of us have used tools like these to understand our strengths as parents, even though it’s one of the most important roles in our lives!
Today’s guest, my friend Brandon Miller, is the co-author of Incredible Family: Discover Your Parenting Strengths and Raise Your Kids with Confidence. Not only is the book packed with great information, but it also includes a powerful parenting assessment tool to help you and your partner uncover what makes you uniquely great as parents.
Brandon’s really hit on something big with this book, as proven by the fact that he was voted Most Influential by the Front Row Dads Brotherhood after presenting this material at our last retreat.
Also joining us is fellow Front Row Dad, Les McDaniel, who trains coaches that help parents and their children become stronger, more loving, and more peaceful.
So what exactly does it mean to build an “incredible family” and how do we make it happen? That’s what this discussion is all about. If you want to bring the joy back into your parenting and shift from being frustrated to fascinated, and from conflict to cooperation, this episode is a must-listen!
PS: Want 2 free copies of Incredible Family? Write an honest review of the podcast, send a screenshot of your review to jon@frontrowdads.com, and I’ll send you and your spouse a copy in the mail. It’s my way of thanking you for your support, and I know it’ll make a big difference for you and your family.
    Gold Nuggets
What readers can expect from Incredible Family.  How understanding our strengths as parents can help us identify patterns and resolve conflicts.  How Brandon’s entrepreneurial experience informed his methodology as a parent. The value of raising kids who grow up confident (not arrogant). The importance of being more passionate about our families than our businesses. How reaffirming strengths amplifies them. Why inherent negativity bias constantly reaffirms what we’re not - and the power of shifting away from this mindset. Why Brandon and Les said yes to Front Row Dads and why they’re still in the Brotherhood. Big Questions Asked

How do we partner with someone to give our children the five things they need? Do many parents have overlapping strengths? How do I make sense of my parenting assessment? Why don’t our priorities as parents always align? How can we look for the shine in our kids’ eyes to understand what’s working and what isn’t, in our families Why do so many parents lack confidence? Why aren’t men leading the way on unity right now? What happens when we play to our partners strengths and show up as a true leader? Why does everyone need a coach? How can strengths assessments help us solve society’s toughest challenges? How do we amplify what’s good to silence what’s not? Why can it be so hard for us to identify our true strengths? How does gratitude uncover strengths in other people?

Front Row Dads: great resource for anyone who want to improve involvement in a child’s life

Front Row Dad’s is a great resource for any dad, grandad, or anyone who want to improve their relationship which there children and help them grow healthier and happier. I particularly enjoyed episode 262: How to Play Off Your Partner’s Strengths. It a great episode because the resources describe how to objectively evaluate ourselves to learner our strengths and how that works with our partners strengths.
I have listened to the FRD podcast for over a year. I enjoy the variety of topics and particularly appreciate the absence of “toxic masculinity” that other father oriented podcast occasionally have.

Great support for dads

Great podcast. I am a dad to 6 amazing kids and realize that no matter how much I know there is much to learn. Being able to listen to experts in a variety of fields and men who just want to make us better dads is so helpful.

Often it seems the culture at large wants different things than we do as dads so having intentionality around leading our children is needed. Finding good information to help in that really makes a difference. That’s where Front Row Dads comes in.

Thank you for the great resources and keep it up please.
