Gear Effects is a podcast co-hosted by Golf News Net's Ryan Ballengee and Cool Clubs master fitter Pete Weber. The show explores all facets of golf performance, including golf-club fitting, golf equipment and how fitting can enable golfers to maximize their potential as players. Every week, Ryan and Pete will explore topics in the world of golf-club fitting, hear Pete's insights from his recent fittings and answer your questions!
Moving strike location through fitting
A fitter is trying to do a lot of things for a golfer when taking them through the fitting process, but one of the biggest goals is to make sure the golfer hits the ball as close to the center of the clubface as possible. In this episode, Pete Weber walks us through some of the things fitters can do to help a golfer make better contact, including shaft weights, flexes, torques and other ideas. Then Pete and Ryan get into a discussion about how to best perform in the wind.
Masters recap and how fitters fit for different grasses, playing conditions
Inspired by the differences in what Augusta National played like for the Masters in April compared to November, Ryan and Pete jump into a discussion of how he fits golfers based on the predominant grass they play. The guys talk about how each manufacturer makes a sole that tends to fit some types of golfers better than others. What's the best iron for a sweeper? What's best for a digger? Then the guys go down a rabbit hole on wedge fitting and all the things to ask.
What TrackMan numbers a fitter uses
On our second episode, Pete and Ryan talk about the TrackMan numbers a fitter uses to figure out what a player is doing with their existing golf clubs and how they might be able to fit that golfer into better equipment. Pete walks through a recent fitting example to show how a poorly fitting club led to swing problems and how quickly a better-fitting club fixed the issue.
