On Tuesday, April 20th we had our 4th Global Women Podcast Editor Panel for Geopats Podcasting. Click on the above image to watch the full live video.
    LIVE YouTube video: https://youtu.be/lum5Dmwi0Vk (https://youtu.be/lum5Dmwi0Vk)
For this 4th panel we had such an interesting range of editing skills and tools that we explored from Descript to Izotope and so on. We also had some Podcasters who were Podcast Editors as well as a Podcast Editor who is also an Audio Engineer. The range of what a Podcast Editor is and what they do is part of the reason that I'm personally drawn to this profession, so I'm super glad to be able to share this conversation with you.
This panel conversation includes: (timestamps are for the podcast only)
    (:00) Panel and Panelist Introduction
(4:08) What do you like to do in podcast editing?
(7:41) How many mistakes do you remove? Balance between natural speech and annoyances.
(14:06) After you learn something new (effect, tech, etc), do you ever go back and fix the older episode?
(19:25) Live audience question: Do you use music in your podcast? What do you use with the music (where do you put it in the episode?
(25:45) How do you make your editing more efficient?

(40:40) What podcast editing or audio editing mentors have you had?
(47:51) How do you encourage other women to get into or further into podcast editing?
(53:06) Live audience question: What do you like the most about podcasting?

Every Tuesday in April we are focusing on Women Podcast Editors: women who podcast edit, either for their own projects, for clients or both.

On Tuesday, April 20th we had our 3nd Global Women Podcast Editor Panel for Geopats Podcasting. This podcast is not usually focused exclusively on podcast editing but sure as heck is this month! Click on the above image to watch the full live video.
    LIVE YouTube video: https://youtu.be/lum5Dmwi0Vk (https://youtu.be/lum5Dmwi0Vk)
It's funny because these panels were arranged partially by what the Editors said was their passion in podcast editing AND partially by timezone. So I had a feeling that this group would get DAW geeky and we so did. Ann and Shannon work on audio fiction shows with many characters, tracks and sound effects. Let's just say that screensharing was done and done well. Canan and I both have interview podcasts and shared our experiences with shaping a conversation with its own narrative arc. We all shared our tips for podcast efficiency, mentorship and more.
What I love about these panels is that even though there is often a side range of experience among the 4 of us in each group, there is never a sense of anyone being greater than or lesser than. So it made me smile when this thought was brought up explicitly before we went live and thus discussed during the recording as well.
In short, there is a lot of room in podcast editing to find and develop your own strengths we never have to feel like we aren't good enough to do this.
    We can ALL do this!

Every Tuesday in April we are focusing on Women Podcast Editors: women who podcast edit, either for their own projects, for clients or both.
We enjoy podcast editing and want to inspire other women to edit podcasts.
In our second panel we chatted with Suzy in the UK, Casey in the U.S., Mary in Canada and me, an American expat in Albania. We chatted about what we handle content editing, how to deal with pauses/silences ("know when the hold 'em, know when to show them, know when to walk away'. song reference, lol, sorry, I could not resist!), how much time it takes us to edit a 30 minute raw edit podcast and more.

Live Global Women Podcast Editor Panel: 1 of 4

I recently wrote a post for The Podcast Host about https://www.thepodcasthost.com/training-development/women-and-femxle-podcast-editors-groups/ (Women and Femxle Podcast Editor's Groups). The response to the post and the conversations that came out of it were wonderful. So wonderful that I wanted to continue to talk to women podcast editors but in a different medium.
So in April 2021 we are doing weekly live streamed panels of women podcast editors on Geopats Podcasting. This episode is the 1st panel.
Every Tuesday in April we are focusing on Women Podcast Editors: women who podcast edit, either for their own projects, for clients or both.
We enjoy podcast editing and want to inspire other women to edit podcasts.
This event is FREE but we also welcome donations.

Awesome show

I love the tactical, honest and real rawness Steph delivers in this podcast. I hit subscribe and definitely can’t wait for the next show!!!

Different, honest, refreshing

Steph does a fantastic job of engaging her guests in open, honest conversations about expat life and what it all means to live in different places around the world. The episodes are long, which I enjoy as they allow for conversation to unfold naturally; there's no rigid interview structure here or abrupt cutoff times. Great pod if you're an expat yourself, or if you're just curious to learn more about how others interact with their virtual (and real life!) environments based on where they've taken themselves.
