Criminal defense attorneys Jessa Nicholson Goetz and Nicholas (Nick) Gansner discuss high profile trials, defense strategies, popular culture’s fixation on crime, and all other things related to criminal justice and criminal law. We try to use actual trial records and motions to explain how a verdict is reached in cases that surprise people, and to highlight some lesser known cases. We also like to talk about bail, criminal justice reform, juvenile justice, etc. We think we are kind of funny some days, and hope you do, too. Other days, we're pretty angry, and we hope you are, too. This is unedited and low-fi, so if you're skilled in sound engineering or production, we'll probably drive you crazy (apologies in advance.)

Informative and Snarky.

Love learning about cases from their perspective, and hearing the episodes on legal concepts. Got hooked after their stellar live show with LA Not So Confidential in Chicago in 2018. It's good to hear why things don't work out legally when we think should turn out a certain way. Content always outweighs audio issues for us on this one! - Mack + Liv, Death By Champagne

Great perspective to hear

Just started listening to the podcast and I love it. I am a fellow current defense attorney, and while I really like crime podcasts in general, having hosts who really understand the legal side of things is great. As someone who has worked on both the prosecution side and the defense side, really appreciate that you guys are able to see both perspectives on cases. I’ve listened to podcasts where the hosts are former prosecutors and the prosecutor bias is just soooo evident. So thank you for basically giving me weekly CLE presentations while also making me laugh.
