    Listen to This: Believe Her

    Listen to This: Believe Her

Believe Her is true crime, upside down. In September 2017, young mom Nikki Addimando shot and killed her partner, Chris Grover. She was sentenced to nineteen years to life in prison for murder. Through rare access to police audio, a month-long trial, conversations with Nikki, and original reporting, journalist Justine van der Leun lays out the killing, the evidence, and the aftermath. As this six-part series unfolds, listeners will put together different pieces of a disturbing puzzle. One thing is clear: perception does not equal reality. Believe Her is a riveting chronicle that grapples with assumptions we make about domestic and sexual violence, the long reach of trauma, and the ways in which survival is criminalized, leaving us shocked at how far people will go to avoid seeing what's right in front of them.

Introducing Last Day Revisited: The Opioid Crisis with Stephanie Wittels Wachs & Jackie Danziger

Introducing Last Day Revisited: The Opioid Crisis with Stephanie Wittels Wachs & Jackie Danziger

Opioids are killing more people than ever. In 2020, overdose deaths in the U.S. spiked nearly 30% to a record high -- the sharpest annual increase in 30 years. Fentanyl sold on the street and the ongoing toll of the pandemic are the primary drivers. With so many of us affected, there’s a dire need for solutions. That’s why we’re re-releasing episodes 2-12 from season one with new updates from previous guests and fans of the show. Last Day Revisited: The Opioid Crisis is a binge listen that offers essential knowledge, support, and answers for people directly impacted by addiction. PLUS, we reveal what topic we’ll be covering in Last Day Season 3, dropping early 2022. Together, we can reduce stigma and save lives.  On Last Day, we talk about what’s killing us, the stuff that’s hard to comprehend and getting worse every day. Join host Stephanie Wittels Wachs, as she confronts massive epidemics with humanity, wit, and a quest for progress. While Season 1 chronicled the opioid crisis in the US, Season 2 delves into the growing suicide rate, telling real stories, talking to experts, and asking everyone along the way, "How did we get here, and what could we have done differently?"

5: Meghan — “The curtains were pulled, and it was quiet.”

Meghan Britton-Gross finds it hard to believe it’s been nearly 30 years since she lost her little brother, Andrew, in a car accident. He was 7. She was 12. Meghan still vividly remembers the dark and lonely aftermath of his loss, particularly as a junior high student processing the pain of being treated as a “forgotten griever.”

A comfort for those grieving

I lost my daughter to stillbirth this past 2020. These stories are harrowing, tragic, and beautiful. I’m finding comfort in the stories of grief from others. Thank you for this.
