The Ancient Greeks saw omens everywhere they looked: in the natural world, in their ritual sacrifice of animals, even in their own mundane actions, such as sneezing. They believed the accurate reading of such omens was essential to making decisions large and small. Manteis were freelance interpretive experts called upon to read these omens.
