GoTigers247's Tigers on Tap Ep 11: UNT Review/Temple Preview Tigers in 20: A Memphis Tigers Athletics podcast

    • Basketball

Welcome to Tigers on Tap Episode 11.
In this episode TJ and Trey review the Tigers' 44-34 win over the University of North Texas, and preview the upcoming conference matchup against the Temple Owls on Saturday, October 1st.
In the first segment, TJ and Trey break down the Tigers' win over UNT. Both guys were disappointed in the play of the offense. UNT came into the game giving up an average of close to 500 yards a game, but were outgained by UNT 473-334. QB Seth Henigan struggled during the game to find open receivers and was sacked three times during the game. The defense, overall, had a better game than the offense. Even though they gave up 473 yards of total offense to UNT, 5th year seniors Zay Cullens and Jaylon Allen scored touchdowns for the defense with two interceptions returned for a touchdown. Trey and TJ both believe the secondary for the Tigers will keep getting picked apart unless the defensive line creates more pressure. They both reiterate, though, that wins are the most important thing, no matter the final score. In the end, even after a disappointing game, the Tigers go into their matchup against Temple with a 3-1 record.
In the second segment, TJ and Trey preview the upcoming matchup against Temple. One notable starter for the Owls this year is true freshman EJ Warner who has assumed the starting quarterback role taking over for D'Wan Mathis. TJ does not believe Temple has the roster to hang with the Tigers in this game, but they are concerned by the play of the defense as of late. EJ Warner is a good enough quarterback to take advantage of bad cornerback play and a lack of pressure by the defensive line. Both guys believe Memphis will win the game, but there are so many questions left up in the air about the Tigers' team, guessing a final score is a hard task. TJ believes the Tigers will win 38-17. Trey predicts the Tigers to win 49-21.
