Welcome to the Green and Gritty podcast! We are four Master's students trying to make environmental education a little more accessible. We are a podcast dedicated to discussing sustainability and raising awareness for environmental issues, but we’re gritty because we aren’t professionals yet, we’re still figuring things out, and we won’t be polished like your average lecture hall.     The World is on FIRE

    GREEN AND GRITTY FAMILY... WE ARE BACK. We took some time off for our own personal research endeavors but we missed y'all too much to stay away any longer. We get right into the shit today talking about all the extreme weather events we’ve been seeing here in the GTA, including the ocean being on fire :’) We dive right into pipeline gas leaks, oil spills and the deeply rooted impacts they have on aquatic life, human communities, our planet and climate change as a whole, and even the economy.

    Corporate Callout

    We told y'all we were getting grittier this season! On this week's episode we revisit the topic of Greenwashing and provide some examples of companies that have been accused of it! We then enter the corporate callout portion of the show and highlighted actions of Nestle and Coca Cola that have had devastating impacts to not only the planet, but also in terms of human rights! This is a spicy one you don't want to miss!

    Conservation and Preservation

    This week's episode covers the basics of how protected areas are chosen, identifies the difference between conserving marine and terrestrial areas, AND discusses the highly controversial Highway 413 project which has been re-proposed by the Ontario Government. This is a VERY big topic but this episode aims to break down the fundamentals and help you get more involved in Conservation and Preservation efforts in your local area!

    Nice to Meet You, Take Two

    We are back and grittier than ever! Our first episode of season two comes just in time for Earth Day. This episode the Green and Gritty gals reintroduce themselves and provide a breakdown on the history and significance of Earth Day. We wrap up with some ways you can celebrate the earth for Earth Day (April 22nd) and every day of the year! Buckle you seat belts, we were so excited to get back to recording, this episode is a wild ride from start to finish!

    Clean Beauty: A Little Bit Goes A Long Way

    This week Green and Gritty had the pleasure of talking to Kelsey Irvine, the Creative Director of the sustainable beauty company Birch Babe Naturals. We discussed all things clean beauty related such as: what makes packaging sustainable, how to thrive economically as an eco-conscious company, what sustainable beauty can look like at individual and corporate levels. It was a really fun conversation so check it out to learn something new and laugh along the way!

    Environmental Policy with Dianne Saxe

    This week Green and Gritty sat down with Dr. Dianne Saxe to discuss her career in environmental law and recent transition into politics. We then chatted about trends in approaches to environmental policy from provincial government bodies and how the future of change can be as simple as getting involved at the municipal level. If you want to learn more about what makes an effective piece of environmental policy, how to enforce it, and the role citizens have in the fight against climate change, then THIS is the episode for you!

    What a Waste!

    On this week's episode the gals from Green and Gritty sat down with environmental advocate and influencer Elizabeth, commonly known on social media as ZeroWasteCutie. In this interview we get to know our guest, her experiences working with environmental non-profits, as well as her time spent working at a Materials Recovery Facility. We take a dive into the world of waste, recycling, and the complex concepts related to this field. We will answer questions such as what is Zero Waste Living, what do people mean when they say NIMBY, and what are the Five R's.

    Enviro-Mental Health

    This week's episode covers how environmentalism can take take a toll on our mental health. This episode was inspired by an article published by our two special guests from F(earth)er Magazine. Together we discuss our personal impacts and experiences with activism, imposter syndrome, Eco-Anxiety, and ways to cope with these stressful and confusing feelings.
