We split duties on two new films this week: Leitch talks about "The Call of the Wild," and Grierson digs into "Emma." But the real fun--and that is absolutely not the right word--this week comes from the Reboots: 2013 documentary "The Act of Killing," and the 1971 satirical drama "The Hospital."

    2020 Sundance Film Festival Preview

    2020 Sundance Film Festival Preview

Hello! Our odd early-2020 schedule continues with a shorter mid-week episode, in which Grierson previews the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. He's leaving for the fest this week, and he takes a look at the history of the festival, and the movies he's most looking forward to seeing there. He will also surely spend much time partying in a hot tub with a dog wearing sunglasses.
We'll be back on Super Bowl Sunday with a big mega-show. This will have to hold you off until then. Hello!
Thanks to Dylan Mayer and My Friend Mary, both of which are wonderful, for the music.

"Bad Boys For Life," "Dolittle," "In the Bedroom"

Hi! Look! We're discussing actual movies! The first movies of 2020. And what a couple of gems. First, it's "Bad Boys For Life," this time without Michael Bay. And then "Dolittle," the already-infamous Robert Downey Jr. disaster. Woo.
And for the first time in way too long, we have a Reboot! It's 2001's "In the Bedroom," directed by the now-reclusive Todd Field. Also stay tuned for a weird Craig Kilborn moment.

Great show

Love the banter between the hosts. I often come away wanting to see a movie I may not have otherwise heard of, or with something more to think about when watching. My reboot request is PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, the 2004 Joel Schumacher version. This movie is not a masterpiece and didn’t make a huge impact at the time, but it’s got a really talented cast that we haven’t seen in similar roles since: Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson and Gerard Butler pre-300. Would love to hear your takes on this fairly close adaptation of the stage musical.

My favorite podcast

I’ve been meaning to write a review and request the movie L’Avventura and after the call for more foreign films I decided to do just that. L’Avventura please.

Beautifully Balanced

Excellent movie podcast that effectively balances high brow film criticism with popular movie reviews; Midwest niceness with coastal sophistication. I would love to hear their takes on the should be George C Scott classic, The Hospital.
