    Holy He#% this is Hard!

    Holy He#% this is Hard!

In this episode, Dorothy and Allison talk about the hard struggles we all face in life.
They discuss how not to get stuck in the “roundabout” cycle of hard, in our marriages, family, business, and personal challenges.

Dorothy shares some powerful insight on how to grow and thrive in and through the difficulties in life and how to get off the “roundabout” without wrecking your life. She expands on this by sharing her personal experience in the cycle and the importance of being slow and intentional when faced with these hardships. She also talks about a time in her life where she almost committed what she refers to as “spiritual suicide” and how God plucked her out of that.
Allison reveals how sometimes we are positioned in a cycle of pain to grow and heal. She shares her recent hard in life with what she calls an “identity crisis” and how she found the strength to rest in the “merry-go-round” that God had placed her on. Allison talks about how we often confuse others’ perceptions of ourselves with who God made us to be and how she’s relearning who she is in Him. Finally, Allison reveals how God sent people into her life during these hard times to comfort and support her as she healed.
They both conclude the episode by sharing how God doesn’t lead us to the hard to destroy us but to bring Him glory.
Whether you’re stuck in the thick of the hard or have been through the hard in life, this episode is sure to offer you comfort and a renewed hope that we don’t have to allow struggle and hardship to define or defeat us. Instead, we can come out on the other side of this “holy hell” in His triumphant victory.

Main Quote:  “ Hard is the training ground for life muscles, to build growth and success.”

    What about the Sons?

    What about the Sons?

In this episode, we follow up our previous series, “Our Daughters Don’t Approve,” with the Grit and Glam girls inviting Dorothy’s son Matthew and special guests Misty Phillip, author and host of the By His Grace Podcast, along with her son Ian on to talk about all the grit and glam involved in a Mother/son relationship. Of course, our daughters disapprove, but what about the sons?

Like the daughter’s episode, nothing is off the table. Misty and Dorothy are utterly transparent as their Sons answer the same hard questions about their Mothers as were asked in our previous episodes. Misty shares her struggle with having a son leave the nest, and Dorothy shares the complexity of parenting as a teen mom.

The mother-son duos talk about everything boys, from Dungeons and Dragons to sometimes feeling overlooked in your family. This episode is for mothers raising boys of any age. It offers advice on supporting and building a healthy friendship and dealing with the struggles/disagreements that mothers and sons can often face. If you want to take a peek inside the heart and mind of a son, you don’t want to miss this episode.

Main Quotes- “Mother Don’t Smother.” - Misty Phillip
“It is imperative and extremely important that you realize that they will always seek a male figure as a role model.” - Matthew Strouhal

    Our Daughter's Don't Approve - Mother's and Daughter's Pt. 2

    Our Daughter's Don't Approve - Mother's and Daughter's Pt. 2

We finish off our two-part series with Dorothy’s daughters Grace and Lindsey and Allison’s daughter Brooke, having honest conversations about the generational divides in parent-child relationships and the disagreements that can arise from those.

The mothers and daughters discuss the hurdles often faced when a child/teen begins expressing themselves through fashion or other means and how both parent and child can work through this divide by healthy communication. In addition, they discuss the difference between approval and acceptance and how that can play a significant role in building a healthy relationship with your kids. From tattoos, the urban dictionary, to mom jeans, we discuss the differences that each generation faces and build a bridge of mutual love and acceptance, even when we disagree.

Main Quotes:“Approval does not determine love.”

“The communication between generations has to be one based on mutual unconditional love and respect.”
