    4: Life on the Vern

If you've heard of GW, you've probably heard about our urban Foggy Bottom Campus in the heart of downtown DC—but did you know about the Vern?

The Mount Vernon Campus is our tight-knit, traditional campus in the Berkeley neighborhood of Washington DC. The Vern offers the small, liberal arts college atmosphere that doesn't always translate when living in the city. With fewer students and more deer than on Foggy Bottom, the Vern is more than just our suburban campus—it’s a community within a community. Tune in to find out more about the vibe, the people, and the special experiences that make the Vern feel like home.

So, if GW doesn't have a dining hall, where do students eat? Explore GW's incredibly unique "Open Dining Plan" through the lens of our students. Hannah Sturgis (‘21) will chat with a few others about how they use their Dining Dollars, where they find the best deals on our meal plan, and whether or not the bagels on campus pass the NYC litmus test.

When COVID-19 became a global pandemic, our students were among the millions of people who abruptly shifted to a “new normal.” Classes moved online, events and milestones were cancelled, and our students were faced with one of the biggest challenges of their lives.

How did they adapt to this new environment? We’ll find out when our host Adriana Feijoo (‘21) sits down with a few other students to talk about what their college lives were like during COVID-19.

    1: GW In Solidarity

In the wake of civil unrest across the country and the world in response to police brutality and racial inequality, the GW community has taken a moment to reflect on our role in fighting against racial injustice and providing spaces for learning, unlearning, and healing. In this episode, Hannah Sturgis ('21) will sit down with Dr. Jordan West, the Inaugural Director of University Diversity & Inclusion for the Office for Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement. Dr. West will discuss her instrumental role in serving underrepresented communities at GW, especially at a turbulent time for many Black and Brown students.

Hannah will also get a chance to speak with the GW Student Association President, Howard Brookins III, and Vice President Brandon Hill. They will discuss what it is like to be leaders on campus and how they use their platforms to support and empower underrepresented students who are navigating GW, a predominantly white institution.
