How to Quickly Get Moving Toward Your Most Important Goals
A ship is safe in the harbor, but that’s not what ships are built for.” – William Shedd
Today’s MBM ponders the topic of motivation. What is it that REALLY gets us moving, helping us to take action and gain momentum toward our goals?
The true litmus test is emotion. We often THINK we want to do something, but nothing truly changes because we’re lacking the emotional spark.
Listen in for more on finding the emotional spark that will propel you to start on your goal-achievement journey.
“A book holds a house of gold." - Chinese Proverb
Learning is remembering, and mastery is repetition, so this episode circles back to basic learning elements to keep in mind on our goal-achievement journey.
Our language constricts and confines our thought process. So if language forms our logic, we must read and learn from as many resources as possible, inside and outside our usual interests.
Listen in for more on the importance of learning and how best to act as the programmer of your own life.
“The ultimate guru is you."
While listening to a podcast, MG heard a “guru” talking about control, saying that we’ve deceived ourselves into the idea of controlling things, when we actually control NOTHING.
But this idea is harmful, dichotomous thinking. While we’re not in control of millions of things, we ARE in control of our thoughts and behavior.
Listen in for more on recognizing what we can and can't control so we can adapt and keep pursuing our dreams.
“Everything is difficult before it is easy.” ~Goethe
It may be a big word, but automaticity is what we're looking for on the path to goal achievement, and it's why we practice.
Automaticity is the underlying strength of habit and skill. When we develop automaticity of the habits that truly matter, we re-wire our brains to put these behaviors on auto-pilot.
Listen in for more on programming your brain via automaticity as you intentionally align your habits and behaviors with your goals.
Two Steps Forward
“If the path is clear, we're on the wrong path.”
Progress is rarely a straight line. Rather, progress often looks like a zig-zag as we move toward our goals.
When things go sideways, first take inventory of the few (or many) things that went right, then adjust the plan and keep moving forward. Goals are intelligence in action, and failure to achieve a goal reveals helpful information—whether it's the first effort or the 15th.

I’ve been consuming Martin’s content for several years. The topics discussed within this podcast are timeless and worthy of study in any environment. It is one of my main go to’s especially when I need to reset my mind and actions that tend to drift away often due to many challenges of life. Simple and effective approach. Highly recommend!!!
See my previous comment. The content is great, but I wish you would change your podcast name back to the original HabitFactor instead of Habits2Goals. My only goal is to develop and maintain healthy habits. The notion of Goals gets too complicated and may confuse many. Need to be clear & calm before we can identify goals. At least make it clear that we don’t have to set our Goals before starting down this path.
Martin, host of the Habits 2 Goals: The Habit Factor Podcast, highlights all aspects of productivity, success and more in this can’t miss podcast! The host and expert guests offer insightful advice and information that is helpful to anyone that listens!
