2021: A Year In Comedy Film, TV, Stand-Up, Death and Controversy with Chandler Dean
2021 was... more of the same, wasn't it? Sure, there was a vaccine - but from the mindset of creating comedy, we're still in a pandemic, live performance is a risky venture and all creativity seems to flow from a slimming few mega corporations. So, was there anything of value that slipped through the cracks. Vic is back with his favorite podcasting pal Chandler Dean to run through the gamut of comedy output for the past year: what films broke through a shrinking window? What TV stuck the landing in the end, was axed too soon, or started strong enough to warrant attention? Whatever happened to the stand-up special anyway? And what legends did we lose among the wreckage of this second hard year of COVID living? Plus, the bottom of the barrel stories barely fit to cover! But cover it, we shall. It's the 2021 reflection podcast! Originally recorded Jan 5, 2022. Hail Satire! is hosted and produced by Vic Shuttee.

Ritch Shydner on 'A History of Stand Up Comedy From The Civil War to Today'
Conversation #186, recorded on October 18, 2021. Ritch Shydner has a long history in the stand-up comedy game, appearing on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show and the early days of David Letterman. He's gone on to be a prolific comedy writer, working with Jeff Foxworthy, Jay Leno, Bill Maher, Roseanne and even Norm MacDonald. His return to stand-up was charted in the 2010 documentary I AM COMIC, and he helped compile great stories of the road in the essential comedy text I KILLED. Now he's putting his mind for comedy history to good use with his new one-man show A HISTORY OF STAND-UP COMEDY FROM THE CIVIL WAR TO TODAY: 160 Years of Standup in 90 Minutes. This one-of-a-kind crash course in comedy is a link to the past of the an art form that has never been popular and somehow not often understood. He's got shows at Yard Theatre on Melrose in LA on Oct 21 and 22, and will be booking more events across the country in late 2021. Hail Satire! is hosted and produced by Vic Shuttee. Series Finale: Did Comedy Survive President Trump? (2020) with Chandler Dean
So it all comes down to this - in the middle of a red mirage, Vic and Chandler aim to complete a trilogy of the wonder: how does such a white whale of material becoming leader of the free world actually impact the type of comedy created in his wake. Does the buffet of defects end up making everyone sick. And now finally, with what appears to be the punchline of President Trump in rearview - where does a comedy world under Biden go. And will Trump return? As a treat for surviving the first term of a one-term president, here is the series finale of Trump v Comedy... until the reboot in 2024. Originally recorded on November 8th, 2020. Hail Satire! is hosted and produced by Vic Shuttee.

The Daily Show Weekly: Jan 26-29, 2004 | A Vic and Chandler Rewatch
OCT 31, 2020 - It's THE DAILY SHOW WEEKLY PODCAST, a rewatch hosted by Vic Shuttee (@VicShuttee) and Chandler Dean (@chandlerjdean)! As New Hampshire makes it clear that Kerry is in and Dean is out, the show finally gets a one-on-one with Howard Dean, and they spend the time with moldy gags from 2000. Never the less, Ed Helms gets the last laugh after spending a week in a van and Colbert successfully skewers the intel leaks from the Bush White House. And we gotta say it: a disproportionate amount of Boobah discussion this week. Sorry about that. The Daily Show Weekly: A Vic and Chandler Rewatch is an unofficial fan podcast designed to serve as a critical companion to the “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”, which belongs to Comedy Central and can be watched in clips at CC.com. Hail Satire & TDSW are the best time you can spend on a weekly podcast
Vic Shuttee is born to entertain people. He has such a natural charisma about him and his charm is more infectious than herpes (and herpes is really infectious, you should probably go get checked right now if you haven't recently). He brings such a passion and energy to everything he works on and you should absolutely listen to the podcasts he makes. On his current bread and butter podcast the Daily Show Weekly he and his co host Chandler Dean do what should have been done so long ago and take a look at the daily show from the beginning of the John Stewart era (because Craig Kilborn sucked, lets just be honest). Its so fascinating to see where the show started because it is SO different than the Johnny Stew we came to know and love by the end of his tenure. Seriously, its almost an unrecognizable show from its humble beginnings. Vic and Chandler slog through so much crap from the tittyweed era to the Barely TV era to hopefully though the best new team on television era when they get there. Any point is a good place to start, but I highly reccomend starting at the beginning and working your way through. If you dont want to sit through the hundreds of hours to get there, I suggest the 1999 and 2000 best of yearly recaps to get up to speed. They are true professionals and really funny and I can't reccomend this highly enough.
Podcast Review
I met this guy in college! He's a pretty sweet guy and his shows have always been top-notch. This is the go-to podcast for all things comedy.
An Unbiased Perspective
Hey this is Chandler Dean. I can't tell before I post this if this is my own account or my dad's. But either way Hail Satire is a dope podcast universe and I specifically recommend you check out Vic's and my podcast within it, The Daily Show Weekly. We recount our quixotic journey through watching every episode of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart while also reflecting on the stories of today. If you like The Daily Show, politics, comedy news, and/or inscrutable references to obscure TV moments from nearly two decades ago, it's the podcast for you.
