    Ep. 88: Comic-Con at Home 2020

On this episode, hosts Aaron Nabus and Alex Benedicto welcome back good friend, Jason Lethert from HeroJournalism.
It’s been a while since we have gotten together, so aside from a preview of Comic-Con@Home, mainly about the panels, we spend some time catching up and in the Thunder Round, you also find out about a popular 80’s movie that both Jason and Aaron have never watched!
Heads up – this one clocks in at almost four hours!
So please enjoy and we hope you have a fun time at Comic-Con@Home. Fingers crossed for the glorious return of San Diego Comic-Con next year!

    Ep. 87: Omar Mora

    Ep. 87: Omar Mora

For episode 87, we get a chance to talk with one of the most interesting people that we've met in a long time, Omar Mora (this conversation was recorded near the end of 2019).
Omar is a medical doctor that specializes in regenerative medicine, an actor, filmmaker, writer (comic books, novels, screenplays) and an avid table tennis player.
I’m not sure how he manages to find the time or energy to do all of these things. Maybe he’s a vampire – like the protagonists in his comic book, The Unearthians!
The Unearthians is a unique take on vampires (and aliens) and after reading the first three issues, I definitely am eager to read all of the upcoming issues. Haven’t you ever wondered what would happen if a vampire sucked the blood of an alien?
Please enjoy this conversation with Omar as he talks about growing up in Puerto Rico; loving DC comics, Superman and Steven Spielberg movies; going to medical school in Mexico; treating firefighters in New York during 9-11; his creative journey, some of the challenges he faced self publishing his comic book; table tennis; our appreciation for our mutual friend and comic book creator Rylend Grant (Aberrant and Banjax), stem cells and more!

    Ep. 86: Orlando Arocena (Mexifunk)

    Ep. 86: Orlando Arocena (Mexifunk)

Aaron Nabus here and if you loved our time travel last episode with Poster Posse founder, Don Thompson back to San Diego Comic-Con 2014, then you are in for another treat for episode 86!
We fast forward a bit from July 2014 to November 2014 when my co-host, Alex Benedicto and I went to Poster Posse headquarters in Orange County, CA to meet the one…the only, vector art god himself, Orlando Arocena!
Also known as Mexifunk, he was in town for an art show in Los Angeles and both he and Don had also recently met the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn a few days prior to our conversation.
This was also pre Hall H Show, so the sound isn’t the best and it was originally only going to be a written interview. Unfortunately, due to a bad hard drive, I lost the recording – or so I thought.
Two years ago, I happened to come across a copy of the recording on an external hard drive that I found after a move.
I was ecstatic when I found it because this conversation was such an epic one with one my heroes.
As a graphic designer, I know how hard working in vectors can be and what high level users of Adobe Illustrator can do in six days, Orlando can do, mixing in his signature pop deco style, in six hours. He was also the first artist I found online that we promoted on HallH.com when we launched in June of 2014.
Today is Thursday, April 9, 2020 which also happens to be Orlando’s birthday so this is the perfect time to share this lost interview with Orlando Arocena, Vector Artist, Poster Posse member and just an all-around good and decent human being.
Although this conversation is almost six years old, I think you’ll enjoy how Orlando talks about growing up in New York, how anime like G-Force and Robotech had an influence on him, finding art, going to Pratt Institute, talking to Mark Hamill on the phone, working for Lloyd Kaufman at Troma, meeting James Gunn, how he joined the Poster Posse and more!
    Happy birthday brother!

Ep. 85: Don Thompson (Poster Posse)

Ep. 85: Don Thompson (Poster Posse)

Aaron Nabus here and I’m recording this intro to episode 85 on April 6, 2020 which just happens to be the birthday of the founder of the Poster Posse…Don Thompson!
I thought it would be cool to take a time machine back to San Diego Comic-Con 2014 when we first met Don – before there was even ever a Hall H Show, when we were just a blog. In fact we had just launched HallH.com one month prior to this conversation!
We talk about Batman, Bruce Lee, his leaving the east coast and moving to California with some friends basically on a whim, New Wave music and more!
Please enjoy this phenomenal conversation and also join me and my co-host, Alex Benedicto in wishing Don Thompson a phenomenal birthday!

    Ep. 84: Charlie Stickney

    Ep. 84: Charlie Stickney

Aaron Nabus here and I’m happy to welcome to the Hall H Show, Charlie Stickney, the writer and creator of the indie comic book, White Ash!
White Ash is a refreshing take on the fantasy genre and I love the tagline for it, “The Smaller the town, the bigger the secrets.”
It's a beautifully executed book that features art and letters by Conor Hughes and colors by Fin Cramb.
While this interview was done late last year, Charlie has an active Kickstarter campaign going on until April 8, 2020 for White Ash, so please check it out!
Lot’s of gold in this episode, from talking about his early love of Lord of the Rings, Sword of Shannara and the Transformers cartoon and comic book series to succeeding at creating a comic book, building a fanbase and funding Kickstarter campaigns...while raising a family

Ep. 83: Matt Dunford (San Diego Comic Fest 2020)

Ep. 83: Matt Dunford (San Diego Comic Fest 2020)

Chairman, Matt Dunford, gives the Hall H Show an update on what's in store for San Diego Comic Fest 2020.
The San Diego Comic Fest is the friendly comic convention with a casual and intimate setting that allows fans to interact directly with professionals and exhibitors. Indulge your love of comics, science fiction, and films, and meet an outstanding array of professional creators without high-priced tickets, crowding, or long lines.
You may start out in awe of all the creators in attendance (like this year's guest of honor, Bill Sienkiewicz) but chances are, you'll be friends by the end of the last day.
For more information about San Diego Comic Fest:
The Hall H Show is the voice of independent pop culture creators and is hosted by Aaron Nabus and Alex Benedicto. Please be sure to visit small press and artist alley at all the comic conventions you go to.

Highlight the artists and con stars we love

Aaron and Alex offer a lot of support in the comic-con community and their podcast is one of the best examples of that. It's great hearing from artists and other industry pros. They also record all their epsidoes in person which makes for a really engaging show.
