Hallowed Ground StoryCast is all about the most influential movies, shows, and books in our lives. Find out how we became friends, what inspired our careers, and why we podcast. This season, we have another round of brilliant guests to share with you.
Anya and Alan talk about the movie that taught Anya that movies could be Art instead of just entertainment- Monsoon Wedding! We talk about the surprising storyline of abuse, and how it resonates so many years later. The pull between Old India and New India. And how Dubey is NOT ready for a relationship.
Anya and Alan talk about the 2001 Gore Verbinsky movie “The Mexican”. This is a story about stories which are themselves about stories. It helped Alan learn about stories and how a story should tell a story within itself so that the story makes sense. Story.
The Lives of Others
Anya and Alan talk about the award-winning German-language thriller “The Lives of Others”. We loved this tightly plotted story about Art and Fascism in the 1980s. It resonated with the politics of our time, the fights over the importance of storytelling in culture, and why the truth is worth standing up for.
His Dark Materials Preview
We have a new podcast! Come listen to us talk about “His Dark Materials” with our friend Caitlin. For all the details visit the Measures of Truth homepage, then subscribe to the podcast in your favorite player!
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine
Anya and Alan discuss the hilarious, but very dark, best-selling novel “Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine” by Gail Honeyman. We discuss suicide, loneliness, and depression- so please take care to listen only if you are ready for those themes. Also we ask ourselves- “What would a ferret do in this situation?” and realize the correct way to live.
A Knight's Tale
Alan tries to explain why he owes $400 to Blockbuster video, what William and Jocelyn are fighting about, and what Nietzsche would have thought about “A Knight’s Tale”. Yeah. Buckle in for some weirdness.

Thoughtful and fun!
This is a unique concept for a podcast and one I really enjoy! Each host has the other consume a piece of media they really enjoy and that leads to interesting discussions not only on the story, but on why it’s important to them. I also like hearing about new and old stories and things I may have missed along the way. Thank you for the podcast!
Smart, insightful, and approachable story analysis
Anya and Alan are a great team who together bring a thoughtful and intelligent approach to their analyses of the media they love. I love this podcast and eagerly look forward to each new episode, whether I am familiar with the content or not!
Love this Podcast, Read the Book and was excited to watch the show. I watch the show on Sunday. I can’t wait to listen to “Let’s us Stand for this weeks Reading”. I snuggle into my seat and enjoy the story all over again! Alan and Anya banter the storylines back and forth and build it all over again. I find the light bulb going off.... sooooo that’s what that meant.... laughing out loud in my car just the three of us, very entertaining.
