034: In The Mood For Love // Yi Yi

A Chinese & Taiwanese fusion episode. An anniversary episode. A great, great movie episode. In The Mood For Love from director Wong Kar-Wai is a seductive visual masterpiece about the painful beauty of longing and heartbreak. Edward Yang's Yi Yi is a generational family story about the under-appreciated beauty of our ordinary, messy lives. Both are visionary works of art released 20 years ago and they are two of cinema's greatest achievements from master filmmakers.

Through some technical difficulties on this episode, we have some fun discussion and Nick achieves possibly the ultimate happy tear? What does that even mean?

In the Mood For Love starts at 6:45

    Yi Yi starts at 32:15

Quirky, yet Thoughtful

These dudes know how to put on a great show. I find myself being introduced to a diverse range of artistic media that I probably would not have found otherwise. I love hearing about the funky music and breathtaking film that is being released today. The material Brandon and Nick cover helps me to plan my movie nights on the weekends. Additionally, The discussions are always a pleasure because the hosts often have differing, yet legitimate perspectives on the same subject.

So many random facts I have learned

I love that this cast has taught me things I never would have found on my own. The topics covered are sure to expand your mindset and their personal touch on how this is delivered, from an emotion stand point, is something so unique to me

Their voices are as if they’re my friends already

This podcast took me by surprise. I hadn’t listened to anything exploratory like this before and they do a great job diving in and breaking down cool things I hadn’t heard about yet... without boring me at all! They sound like two guys I’d be friends with.
