Suspense - Always Room at the Top

Greetings from Hard Road Theatre! Welcome to Hard Road Theatre Stage at Home Radio Serials where we step back in time and bring you tales from the Golden Age of Radio. Tonight we present "Suspense" featuring notable melodramas from stage and screen that will bring you to the edge of your chair and keep you in ... Suspense! ,  brought to you by Blake Schrumpf, State Farm. We know a lot of people who think there are a lot of people who don't like a good ghost story. For the benefit of these, at least, we go on record at the outset of this evening's entertainment with a sober assurance that, although blood may be curdled on this program, none will be spilt. There's no shooting, knifing, throttling, axing or poisoning here. No clanking chains, no cobwebs, no bony and/or hairy hands appearing from secret panels or, better yet, bedroom curtains. If it's any part of that dear old phosphorescent foolishness that people who don't like ghost stories don't like...then, again I promise you, we haven't got it. Not tonight. What we DO have is a thriller. If it's half as good as we think it is, you can call it a shocker. A story doesn't have to appeal to the heart, it can also appeal to the spine. Sometimes you want your heart to be warmed and - sometimes you want your spine to tingle. The tingling, it's to be hoped, will be quite audible as you listen tonight ... to "Always Room at the Top" Tonight's episode is titled - Always Room at the Top FEATURING: Announcer - Bill Sullivan Helen - Breanna Noe Farrell - Evan Fifer Jean - Linda Collman Marie - Gentry Fifer Charlie - Carlos Munguia Receptionist - Mary Knebel Cop - Bill Sullivan Reporters/Voices - Carlos Munguia, Brian Knobloch, Mary Knebel, Bill Sullivan PRODUCTION STAFF: Recording/Sound Engineer - Carlos Munguia Audio Sous-Chef - Bill Sullivan Audio/Foley Editor - Brian Knobloch/blockplanedesigns ______________________________ We’re trying to recreate that magic this fall and winter with a new venture entitled “Hard Road Stage at Home Radio Serials”. Ladies and gentlemen: the story you are about to hear is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent... Greetings from Hard Road Theatre! Welcome to Hard Road Theatre Stage at Home Radio Serials where we step back in time and bring you tales from  the Golden Age of Radio. Tonight we join Sgt. Joe Friday and the Los Angeles Police Force, as they fight crime and help those in need,  brought to you by Lee's Fine Jewelry, Loans & More. We did something fun with the casting for this series! If it looks familiar, that’s because it is! The Dragnet cast includes performers who starred in the 2012 Hard Road Revival of “The Odd Couple”. We’re  excited to be be able to bring back this talented team for these performances!  Tonight's episode is titled - The Big Sister FEATURING: Announcer - Jim Burgett  Sgt. Joe Friday - Bill Sullivan Officer Frank Smith - John Jatcko Martha Dunbetter - Meredith Canterberry Tina Millot/Bessie Maxon - Gentry Fifer Ralph Portlong - Tom Varner PRODUCTION STAFF: Recording/Sound Engineer - Brian Knobloch Audio Sous-Chef - Bill Sullivan Audio/Foley Editor - Brian Knobloch/blockplanedesigns ______________________________ To say that 2020 has been a challenge for our organization would be an understatement. Back in January our board approved an exciting slate of shows and productions to celebrate our 20th season! Unfortunately, to keep our actors, production staff and patrons safe, we were forced to cancel all of our in-person shows, fundraisers and community outreach events. Historically we have produced 2-3 summer shows, which are very popular, highly attended and account for a large portion of our yearly income. Through these tough months we have tried to find creative and safe ways to engage our actors and patrons. In lieu of our kid’s show this summer our amazing production team created a weekly video “Hard Road Stage At Home Series” featuring many of our talented youth performers recorded remotely from the safety of their own homes! We released these wildly popular videos on our Facebook page and and on our website www.hardroad.org, garnering thousands of views, likes and shares.
