Love love

Listened to both seasons… love Casper, Vanessa, Matt and the whole team!
Such thoughtfulness brought to Harry Potter and goes so far beyond Harry P. It makes my heart happy.

Critical reading of Harry Potter

At its core, this podcast is essentially a critical reading of Harry Potter. The sacred lens gives the hosts different practices to try but doesn’t frame much of the actual discussions. For any fans of Harry Potter, the podcast is at its best an entertaining way to revisit the books. However, as anyone who has taken a literature/English class can confirm, critical readings often get hung up on dissecting the most menial parts of a text (sometimes a door is just a door) and critics are limited by their own ideology, often trying to superimpose it on a text to a fault and losing something in the process. Harry Potter and the Sacred Text has both these problems at various times. So while the discussions can be entertaining, the extent to which you’ll enjoy them depends on how willing you are to analyze the text and its exact language and on how much you enjoy the ideals and beliefs of the hosts.

Creature

I love your podcast, even though I am politically on the other side of the spectrum than you are. In this episode you spent a lot of time on Creature being free because Harry gave him jewelry which is kind of like clothes. I learned a very important lesson at the feet of my father when I was a young man: No matter how eloquent a person speaks and no matter how persuasive they are, if their premise is wrong, their argument is wrong. Your premise that jewelry is clothing is wrong. Clothes are make of cloth and are sold in a clothing store. Jewelry is not made of cloth but of jewels and is sold in a jewelry store. Next, Casper make the statement that Creature isn’t in the battle of Hogwarts. Yes he is.

The first season of this podcast was a lot better than the second. First season was more about the text and what it was saying to us. This season is more about promoting their social agenda and much less about the text. If I could give one suggestion it would be; re-read the books. You’re making to many mistakes about the actual text in the books.
