    Adventist to Atheist Pipeline

Bonnie and Rajeev discuss the appearance that atheism is frequently the first-stop post-adventism. They explore why that might be the case and how their own stories connect to that reality. They also debunk some commonly held notions in the SDA tradition and teaching about atheists.

    Wired for Conspiracy

On January 6, 2021 the scene at the United States Capitol got Bonnie and Rajeev thinking about what it takes for people to fall victim to conspiracy theories. In a flash they recognized the multiple points of connection in their SDA upbringing that groomed them, and millions of others, to be accepting of absurd ideas as fact and salvific.
Bonnie and Rajeev recall various teachings that echo the kind of conspiracy theories perpetuated by QAnon and others in the sphere of donald trump.

    Homosexuality and Adventism

    Homosexuality and Adventism

Bonnie and Rajeev explore the anti lgbtq stance of the Adventist church; a stance that is built upon biblical literalism even though a deeper exploration reveals the bible is not anti-loving relationships or sex...but it is clearly anti woman in many places.
Join Bonnie and Rajeev for a careful look at the hostile culture and texts in Genesis, Leviticus, Romans, 1 Corinthians and 1 Timothy.

Religious trauma therapist ,

Very true to the former Adventist experience!

I was an Adventist, cradle through college. Once I realized how uninformed and harmful so many of the doctrines were, I left the church and Christianity all together 40 years ago.

Many of my best friends were likewise indeed “educated out” of these quaint and harmful beliefs, as Rajeev said in the end-times episode.

Now, as a clinical psychologist, I use my ‘peculiar’ background to help others who are deconstructing from adverse religious experiences like ours.

Thanks for creating this venue and sharing your stories about the whole gamut of the ex-Adventist experience!

Spot on real human emotions and reflection

Thank you for this podcast! It’s a such a relief to hear others talk about the real trauma of leaving the SDA church. I also was raised in it and eventually outgrew it altogether. Many of my closest friends have done the same thing and we all need to hear how others are coping and processing the consequences of this doctrine. I also really enjoy how you both are separating what aspects of this community benefited you. I also am trying to peal back the dysfunction and explore what moral good I’ve learned. Pot lucks are now with friends, and I didn’t have to sit through a sermon dripping with condemnation and shame in order to eat with people I love. (Yay meat and wine at pot luck!) I’m grateful Adventism taught me to seek out alone time throughout my life. It was those introspective times I finally reflected and journaled my way out of religion ;)
It’s so validating to hear the day to day conflicts you both share, thank you for being so personal with your feelings.

Badventist

As a recovering Adventist, former ministerial student, and childhood friend of Rajeev, I was hooked before I started listening. I’m halfway through the first episode, and I can totally relate. Bonnie and Rajeev are way more thoughtful and restrained than I would be, which is much appreciated. Can’t wait for the next one.

Bravo, Tom Prasada-Rao
