CiNEOLA Presents... is a podcast from CiNEOLA. Each episode features conversations between artists, filmmakers, and writers from the Latin American community.
This episode features film programmer João Federici in conversation with filmmaker Dieter Deswarte and Emilio Felix Sánchez Morón, administrator of Casa Miga LGBTQ+ refugee shelter, as they discuss the documentary ‘Hazte Sentir’ which is now showing on CiNEOLA, co-presented by Frameline.
About ‘Hazte Sentir’:
In 2018, Brazil’s first shelter for LGBTQ+ refugees opened its doors in the city of Manaus, the largest city of the state of Amazonas. This collaborative documentary film tells the story of three residents who are all trying to build a new life in this urban metropolis.
About João Federici:
João is the director of programming and former executive/artistic director of the largest LGBTQ+ film festival in Latin America, MixBrasil, and the World Cinema Programmer/Latinx Community Liaison at the Mill Valley Film Festival.
About Dieter Deswarte:
Dieter is a documentary filmmaker based in London. He is a self-shooter and editor. His intimate approach leads to a low-intervention kind of filmmaking that captures human stories with sincerity, creativity and cinematic beauty. He is known for his approachable manner, genuine interest in a wide range of subject matters and dedication towards his practice and social values. He is a lecturer on the MA in ethnographic and documentary film at UCL.
About Emilio Felix Sánchez Morón:
Emilio is the Administrator at Casa Miga, a LGBTIQ+ shelter in the center of Manaus, Brazil that hosts refugees and Brazilians. They are supported by UNHCR and the United Nations Population Fund. Emilio has a degree in International Relations and is a graduate student in Human Rights, Ethnic Social Issues and Socio-Economic Diversity.
