Introducing Trade Secrets (with Misha Green and Kamilah Forbes)

HBO Max presents Trade Secrets, a podcast that gives listeners a VIP pass into the rooms of the world’s best storytellers. We wanted to give you a taste of our first episode, where Misha Green, creator and showrunner of HBO’s ‘Lovecraft Country,’ interviews Kamilah Forbes, the director and executive producer of HBO’s film adaption of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ ‘Between The World And Me.’ Misha and Kamilah dig into what it’s like to be both “a player and a coach” in Hollywood and finding home on set, in music, in Black institutions and beyond. They also take us inside the process of creating Lovecraft Country and Between the World and Me: from working with the actors to the ways that filming during a pandemic changed everything. Bonus: Between the World and Me x Lovecraft Country Radio

In this special bonus episode of Lovecraft Country Radio, hosts Ashley C. Ford and Shannon Houston are back to discuss the HBO’s new film “Between The World And Me,” based on the 2015 book by Ta-Nehisi Coates and the 2018 stage adaptation directed by Kamilah Forbes at the Apollo Theater, as well as the companion podcast produced by HBO, Spoke Media and Domino Sound. First they debrief what it’s been like to see audiences react to Lovecraft Country since its finale. Then, they unpack a few favorite moments in “Between The World And Me” that caused them to reflect on how white supremacy impacted the entertainment they grew up with and the gut-wrenching fear that comes with Black parents’ love. You can subscribe to HBO’s Between The World And Me Podcast right now and you can stream the special on HBO MAX. This podcast is produced by HBO in conjunction with Pineapple Street Studios.

Great addition & extension of film

Props to TNC for finding ways to bring black women’s voices to the foreground. Some really interesting conversation, storytelling here. And it’s well produced too!

Hard Stuff

Incredibly hard - weird - convicting and upsetting listen - just what a 59 white woman really needs right now.
