Creativity is a gift freely given, but must be honed and sharpened like a tool. Part of that honing and sharpening is doing the deep, interior work of being with our trauma and the conditioning we’ve received our whole lives. That honing and sharpening is HEALING. But for so many of us, it’s not enough just to make things and have them fill our homes like self-made, mini ego-museums of hoarding—we have to share our creations with the world. THIS is HEAL + GO PUBLIC where we discuss what it looks like to heal through the creative process and how we get safe enough to share our creations with the world.

I’m your creative guide, Carin Huebner. I’m an artist, podcast producer + editor, and former Spiritual Director. I’m a master listener whose career used to be the art of interviewing and helping people access healing… an offering I give here in this space now. I have lived as, what Julia Cameron in The Artist’s Way refers to as, shadow artist for many years and am on my own journey of living a life and being a self that, instead, embodies artist.

This space is a catalog of my own journey in that transition and includes my own creations as well as interviews (or case studies) of other creatives that are HEALING and GOING PUBLIC as well. I’ll also share with you my own ruminations and thoughts on the internal work and cost of creating and going public—the inner-work tools to create, and to go and stay public with your creations.

Thanks for journeying with me. :)

Ep. 78 Healing Society + Systems by Healing Future Generations w/ the Chakra System

Ep. 78 Healing Society + Systems by Healing Future Generations w/ the Chakra System

The practical function of the chakra system and how it provides access to safety and healing for young people is Maureen Burford’s passion and work with Creative Lives. Through this episode, Maureen and I wonder at:
An overview of the chakra system as described by Ellen Tad  Using the chakra system to help children attune to their own energy  A culture too focused in the solar plexus (the impact on children) + what to do about it  Whether you have young people in your family or not, this episode contains some powerful wonderings around the chakra system as described by Ellen Tad’s research and how we can ground within ourselves to have a greater experience of this life and connection with others.

    More about Maureen:
Creative Lives Executive Director  Maureen Burford has four decades of experience working with students from the early years through college. She has partnered with author Ellen Tadd to bring Tadd's Framework for Wise Education -- based on the chakra system --  to thousands of children and teens. In 2019, Maureen received The Lynn von Trapp Award for excellence in leading youth programming in Vermont.  She has worked as a performing artist and director since 1980 - and loves the process of creating and discovering with others.

Healing is a journey

I appreciate Carin’s dedication to speaking with people who contribute all different perspectives and concepts for healing, spirituality, and creativity. Her questions create really interesting conversations. It makes you consider the societal norms you may have accepted without realizing, and decide whether you want to keep those ideas or not. Really great!
