In this episode, I talk with Crystal Woodling from the School of Heaven and Earth  Crystal is an entrepreneur who is deeply passionate about herbalism, healing, and astrology.  Today she shares her story of growing up in an impoverished region of Appalachia in a family with a rich history of herbal remedies. She left home with a typewriter and a plan to write poems, and her journey took her to the badlands of South Dakota, an herbal apprenticeship in Pittsburgh, Costa Rica, Bali, and back to a homestead in the American South. Along the way, she has deeply studied creative writing, Hellenistic astrology, and traditional approaches to herbalism. This conversation discusses the ethics of embracing spiritual traditions, facing trauma, and finding a place to belong.
